A red signal flashed in front of us and I slowed the car to a stop. I turned to look at Brandon and saw that he was lost in thought as he tapped his foot to the beat of the music in the background.
" How's your project for the club going? " I asked as I returned my gaze to the road.
" Oh, that... Don't even ask." He said as he massaged his head with both his hands. " I have so much to do. We've got a new professor and she keeps assigning us so much work. " He said with a sigh.
" And on top of that, this club fest thing is going to start. Our club is helping out another club too so we're going to have twice the work, no matter which way you look at it. " He continued as he leaned back into the seat.
" Oh, no wonder you've been so wrapped up with your work again. " I said as I felt his gaze on me.
" You know you're working too much right? When was the last time you had a break? " I asked.
" I guess, that would be the dinner we had a few days back. " He replied after a moment of thinking.
Maybe I should. Or maybe I shouldn't. I thought for a split second before I opened my mouth.
I shook my head in disapproval and said, " That is not a break. "
" We did hang out, so technically it is a break. And also - " He started with a shrug.
" - Wait. You missed the turn to our dorm! " He said suddenly as he looked back.
" Oh, I didn't miss it. " I replied with a slight smile as I drove on.
" What do you mean? " He asked as he fixed his confused eyes on me. " I mean, we didn't miss it because we are not going back to the dorm. " I said as I glanced at him through the corner of my eye. " We are going to go watch a movie. " I continued.
" Wait. What? Movie? But I've got work to do! I can't go to a movie now! I've got to start working on my project as well as - " He frantically went on as he tried to convince me to change my mind and head back.
I knew it was risky to suddenly do this, but ah hell to it, some things you've just got to jump. I thought.
" - Nah Nah Nah. I'm not hearing anything of it. You work yourself too much. You need to destress. One day slacking off is not going to kill your work. It'll even do the opposite and boost you up. That's it, end of this conversation. We're going. " I said firmly.
...
A moment of silence passed and I felt Brandon turn away.
Ah, shoot.
Did I push it too far? I frantically worried as I tightened my grip on the steering wheel. And just as I was about to say that we didn't have to if he didn't want to, he cleared his throat and said in a small voice, " Do you have a movie in mind? "
I smiled from ear to ear as I heaved a sigh of relief. " Nope. " I replied.
" Since you're taking me against my will, I get to choose. Deal? " He asked with a slight grin as he raised his eyebrows in question. " As you wish, your highness. " I replied with a laugh, happy that he was being so playful.
After a bit of silence, Brandon picked up the conversation and asked me how my day was. With a smile, I told him how Fran and Luan almost got caught sneaking out of the class after giving attendance and how Conney snoozed off in another class while sitting in the first bench and ended up with an extra paper to hand in.
You could always place your trust in these guys to spice up a boring class for sure.
We talked on and on about random things from college till we reached the parking lot of the mall. I circled around for quite a bit trying to find an empty spot.
When I finally found one, I slowly pulled up to it and started getting in.
And just as I was almost about to turn the car in, another car came out of nowhere and tried to claim the spot. But the gap between us was so small that the car hit us.
Realising that it was his fault for rashly trying to steal our spot, the driver of the other car decided to pick a fight with us first and act like it was all our fault.
He stepped out dramatically as he walked to our car and started yelling at us. " Who gives you kids licenses these days, eh? Can't even drive properly!! Look what you did! "
Agh. All I wanted was to watch a movie with Brandon in peace. I thought as I rolled my eyes and stepped out of the car with a soft sigh.
" I'm sorry sir. But you were the one who hit us. " I said calmly. " What? You took my place and now you're trying to pin the blame on me? " He scoffed. I frowned as I braced myself for how I was going to deal with him.
Just then I heard the car door click from behind me and turned to see Brandon walking up to us. He walked up to the guy in front of me, hands in his pockets, a cold look in his eyes, and glared at him.
" Excuse me, Mister. But we have a dent from your car. Now if you used logic, it's obvious from the scratches on your bumper too that you hit us and not the other way around.
And if you still want to argue, we can all take a stroll to the security camera room and see the footage. Now if I were you, I would buzz off, Sir. Before we call security and charge you for the damages we incurred. " He said sternly in a crystal clear voice as he took another step towards the driver.
Even though he was a few inches shorter than me, his towering height still gave an extra impact. Clearly intimidated, the driver grumbled under his breath and got into his car, and quickly drove away.
" I memorized the plate number, in case you want to charge them. " Brandon said calmly as he turned to me.
I stood there and blinked at him for a few seconds. " You okay? " He asked in his normal tone.
" Um, yeah. That was just ... I mean, I've never seen you like that before. " I said still at a loss for words.
Brandon was usually a cheery person and doesn't usually get angry easily and this was the first time I was seeing this side of him.
Brandon laughed and with a twinkle in his eye, he said, " Well, I didn't want us to miss the movie. "
Brandon is that person who would speak up for Luke. "Excuse me, my boyfriend's food is cold, can you fix this?" As Luke is shushing him "no, no, Brandon its fine..."
"Luke..." gasped Brandon as he pulled him into his embrace. "Don't you ever leave," he whispered as he buried his face into Luke's shoulder.
