" Is she gone? " Kris whispered near my ear as she crept up from behind me.
" KRIS!! I nearly jumped out of my skin!! Don't do that!! " I yelled at her as I brushed her off my shoulder. " Oh that, hee hee. Sorry sorry. " She said as she apologized.
" I just didn't want to be loud in case Talia heard me. " She said with distaste. " I completely forgot she was in your club. " She muttered.
" Hm? Why? " I asked curiously, it was rare that Kris didn't want to greet people. " That girl is one of the few people from school that I absolutely cannot stand. " She said as she scrunched up her face.
" I usually never talk about someone behind their back but as your best friend, I feel immensely responsible to warn you about her.
Even though we were in separate classes, she was on the same volleyball team as me in school and so I know quite a bit about her. And they're not the good parts. " She said in a low voice as we walked out of the building.
" She likes to put up a goody-two-shoes image, but don't let that fool you. She can actually get quite jealous and spiteful if someone shines more brightly than her, be it in sports, grades or anything for that matter. She just likes to believe that she above us all. " She continued.
" I don't know if she's changed so be careful around her. " She ended with a word of caution. Even as Kris was talking I could already start to see what she meant. Talia did act quite high and mighty at times.
" Well thank you best friend of mine, your words shalt be heeded with importance. " I said with a slight bow to brighten up the mood.
It was rare to see Kris frustrated about people, but when something tips of her radar about a certain person she was almost most of the time right. It was her very own Krisy-sense you could say.
Before one of us could continue talking, a familiar red sedan pulled up to us. " Club meeting over? " Luke's voice rang out as he lowered the window. " Yep. " I replied.
" Awesome, give me a few minutes and I'll come to pick you up. I have some papers to drop off first. And since Kris is here anyway, she can give you company! " He said as he waved Kris a Hi.
" Yeah sure, take your time. No worries at all! " I said and Kris wrapped her hand around my neck and nodded. " I'll keep your boy company. Don't worry. " She said with a smug smile.
" Uh... Okay. " Luke said with a confused smile as he laughed a little at the terms ' your boy ' and quickly drove off.
As soon as he started off, I removed her hand from around my neck and put mine around her's in a choke lock. " Kristie Radford, do you have any last words? " I said as I stared at her with narrowed eyes.
" Explain to me why exactly he's been driving you to class in the morning and why you've both been going home together for the past few days then. " She said as she wriggled out of my hold and stared back at me.
" Ah, that. " I said as I looked away from her blazing glare. " Tell. Me. Now. " She said.
" It's not a big deal. He found out that I travel by bus a few days ago when we went to dinner and said he'll drive me from now on, cause we live together anyway - " I quickly started explaining before she cut me off.
" You went out with him to DINNER and didn't TELL me?! " She yelled.
" Um... Uh... Oops? " I said in a small voice. " I forgot to tell you cause we were busy with work and I mean, he gets me dinner most of the time anyway. So it's not really any different. " I added.
Kris looked at me with disbelief and just when I was about to get an earful from her, she looked to my side and said, " Well well well, lover boy is here to save you from my wrath. We'll have a talk about this tomorrow shall we? "
Just then Luke's car came in next to me. " Sorry for the wait. " He said completely oblivious to the situation outside.
I climbed into the car and looked out at Kris who was still looking at me like she was wondering which way to cook me would be the most satisfying.
" See ya later, Kris! " Luke said. " See ya. And you. See you, tomorrow. " She said as she stressed the last word.
I gulped and nodded as I silently thanked Luke for starting the car.
