I screamed inside as I rested my head on the table. The cool wooden tabletop helped calm the raging crankiness that was engulfing me.
" Here. Drink up. " I heard a familiar voice say. I looked up and saw that Kris had returned to the table with some chill watermelon juice. My favourite, especially on days like this.
I looked at her and sniffed. " What would I do without youuu??? Marry meee already!! " I wailed as I reached out to her. " Ew. Gross. Shoo. Dumb head!!! " She said as she pushed me back and at the end, we were both left in giggles as we slurped our nice drinks in the warm afternoon that it was.
Kris had always been there for me. She was a best friend. A sister. A person who I could always count on to be there for me. And I loved her for that.
" Writer's block, eh? " She asked between sips. " Major. " I replied as I ruffled through my hair.
It had been a week since I received the abrupt news that I had to work on a BL plot for my next book and it did not help that I only had three months to work on it.
" Look. It doesn't have to be as big as your other works. It's the quality that matters. Quality. Not quantity!!! So don't worry even though it's a tight deadline you'll be done in three months!! " Erin rambled on, trying to make it sound reassuring, or so she thought. I protested but finally gave in knowing that there was no point arguing with her.
I'm not going to lie when I say this but I was kind of excited since it was a new genre that I wasn't used to. It always thrills me when I venture into writing something new and out of my comfort zone but here I was a week later still lamenting that I didn't have inspiration.
" What is it exactly that you're struggling with? " Kris asked, snapping me out of my inner monologue.
" Hmmm ... I guess a proper plot. And character design. I usually start writing with a plot and a base for the characters in mind. On which I build spontaneously as I go ahead with the story. But the issue here right now is I'm having trouble picking a sub-genre. I don't know if I want it to be fantasy or crime or mystery or something else. Hell, I've written over 20 ideas and crossed them all out because they didn't speak to me. You get what I mean? " I asked as I turned to her.
" Yep. Totally. I get the same issue while writing songs. We can't get a move on unless we are personally satisfied with the theme and our take on it. " She replied as she tried opening her drink to scrap out the fruit pieces that were stuck to the bottom.
" Exactly. " I replied and sighed as I put my head on the table again. " If I remember right, your sister is a huge BL fan, isn't she? Why don't you ask her for help? " Kris perked up and looked at me.
" Yeah, she is. I called her up two days ago and when I told her - "
" She screamed? "
" She screamed. "
Kris shook her head as she joined me in my chuckle.
" She screamed my ears off and when I told her I was having trouble finding inspiration she sent me fifteen novels to read, to get me used to the theme. FIFTEEN!!! " I stressed and Kris laughed out.
" Wait. Is that why you've been looking like a racoon for the past few days with baggy eyes and dark circles?! " She suddenly asked mid-laugh. I laughed nervously as I replied slowly, " I may or may not have finished three already. "
" Brandon Stretworth. Are you even eating or sleeping properly back in the room? " Kris sternly asked.
Doesn't matter if it was her or my family, full name usage meant seriousness.
As I thought about how to answer her without getting into trouble, I realised something, " Actually. I have been eating well. I usually crash when I come back from class and if Luke's already back, he gets me food for dinner. So by the time I wake up, I find it on my side table, ready to eat. "
"Luke..." gasped Brandon as he pulled him into his embrace. "Don't you ever leave," he whispered as he buried his face into Luke's shoulder.
A normal college life with a little spice is what Brandon thinks he signed up for when he joins college and moves into the dorm with his new roommate, Luke.
