The next thing I knew, I was awoken by beeping noises. I wanted to turn it off, but then I realised it was the machine that was near me that was beeping.
That wasn’t just a machine, it was the heart rate monitor.
I must be in the hospital.
I tried to get up, but I was stopped by someone. They passed me my pair of glasses, which I was surprised to see were intact, considering the last thing I remembered was that I fainted near Skye's house.
“You’re awake, Lee! Are you feeling okay?”
I wore my glasses and immediately started tearing up again. Skye was beside my bed. They probably sent me here.
“Hey, don’t cry, everything’s fine. Apparently you were just dehydrated and exhausted. The doctor said you can leave tomorrow if everything’s okay, they just wanted you to stay for a night.”
Oh, no wonder my mouth felt so dry and I was getting dizzy right before I fainted.
“I’m not crying because of that. I’m crying because you’re here right in front of me.”
Skye’s eyes widened.
“Why? You thought I would dump you alone after all this time? Well, you’re wrong. I’m here to stay no matter what.”
Right as they said that, I started crying harder.
“But you already have someone else, Skye. I saw with my two eyes that you two were intimate with one another. You shouldn’t cheat on your partner, and I’m not poly anyway.”
“This is where you are mistaken. I’m not dating anyone, nor am I poly as well. The woman you saw in my kitchen is my younger sister. She and I are very close and people always have mistaken us for lovers, though the truth is we’re nothing more than siblings. Our family is very touchy feely and that’s why I enjoy physical touch.”
Wow, I felt like I made a huge mistake. Of course, Skye mentioned in passing before about their sister. Also, they definitely had some resemblance after giving it a second thought. I felt very guilty about running away instead of listening to Skye’s explanation. This all could have been avoided if I just listened to them.
“I feel like an asshole now, I’m so sorry Skye. I really thought you were dating someone new. I should have just waited for your explanation.”
Skye’s face immediately darkened to the point where they seemed mad by what I said.
“No, do not say that you’re an asshole. If anything, I should apologise for not explaining that my sister was at my house for a visit. If I did explain, none of this would have happened.”
They then moved to the side desk of the room, where I noticed a familiar flower arrangement in a vase.
“Are those… the flowers I brought to your house?”
Skye chuckled. “Thought I should use it as the flowers for you instead. That was so sweet of you by the way, I’m glad you brought them.”
“Oh, you’re welcome. I was actually planning on doing something when I was at your house, but it got ruined by this misunderstanding we had.”
Skye looked at the me, then they looked at flowers, and then they looked at me again.
“What were you planning to do?” Skye said that with a relatively innocent face, though I could tell they were being slightly playful in their tone.
I started blushing.
I wasn’t expecting to confess in a hospital room, yet here we were.
I wasn’t expecting myself to fall in love with Skye Long, yet here we were.
I took a deep breathe, then spoke very softly to the point where Skye had to lean closer to me to hear what I said.
“I was planning to ask you out on a date.”
