For the past couple of weeks, Zoey and I had been meeting regularly in the sculpture studio, and we were working on a plan to win Camilla's heart. It was exhausting me, so my beloved couldn't see me too often these days. Of course, I was there all the time, but in incomplete spiritual form, and when I showed up I looked really bad.
"Cami was really pissed off about this date," the girl said when I let her know I had already stepped into the wooden figurine.
"Thank you for letting me know, I barely had time to ruin it," I replied with a sigh. "I didn't think she would go so far as to, but maybe Ronald was right from the beginning."
"No, you can't give up," Zoey blurted out, but there was no conviction in her voice. We were depressed for a moment. "Can you tell me about Cami's work? I want to understand as much as possible."
"I don't think I'm breaking any rules this way." I shrugged as if that mattered. "I don't know too much about where to start ..." I thought for a moment. "There are a thousand such medium people in the world, each has its own business number. Camilla has 942. They are divided into ten groups, one hundred people each, and from among the hundred a group coordinator is elected, usually the oldest of the better.
"A thousand, exactly?"
"Yes, it probably works so that when one dies, after a short time another is born."
"There are worse and better kinds among them? I didn't know about it," Zoey was surprised.
"Yes, maybe I'll say it like that. The world of spirits is like transparent energy tracing paper that is superimposed on the real world. We live in it as before on earth, because we become part of it, we can move there as we want and do various other nice things. You see, in order to talk to you I had to get out of this layer and that's why it costs me so much energy, as well as any interference in this world because I don't belong here anymore," I replied, waving my wooden legs. I used to sit at the edge of the table during our conversations.
"Average medium can see this paper, call us and talk to us for a long time, but it also exhausts them, because they are not part of the spiritual world. Camilla is one of the better medium kinds, there are ten for each group, for her any intervention is nothing because she actually belongs to both worlds. That's why, for example, she can touch me, hit me," I was lost in thought for a moment, remembering a few things. "Kiss and...," I added, Zoey raised an eyebrow curiously, good she couldn't see me with a burning blush on my cheeks. "If she wanted, of course. And it works the other way too. Therefore, they are more popular with both ghosts and those who wish to avail of their services."
"I think I understand. I had no idea Cami was so special. What is her job after all?" she asked, although I saw that she probably wanted to continue the topic of my beloved's possibilities in other matters.
"He takes care of people and ghosts. They have a dedicated shift plan where people call them and the ghosts come. Some items can only be handled by coordinators who have some special authority. I never needed it so I don't know what it is exactly.” I shrugged. "But Camilla often works outside the set hours, as I said, she's popular. I also don't know when she actually started working for the Association, some people start quite early."
"So is she," Zoey replied, smiling sadly, and I was surprised. “She already talked about work when we were maybe thirteen, but I didn't know she was quite serious then." She began to fidget in place a bit and stretch. "Sorry, Tristan, but today I'm tired, and how much would I give for a massage," she sighed, getting up.
I left the figurine and returned home, it was already late in the evening and Camilla was sticking out over the books, her head was drooping, but she was still trying to learn. She had heavy duty at night, she hadn't even slept, and she was already running to university, and now she was working on some translations. So I gathered up the last bit of my energy and started massaging her shoulders. She woke up a bit and recognized me.
"I don't know what you want to achieve with this, but I'm too tired to be angry with you," she said, giving up and resting her head on the desk. My beloved started to fall asleep, and before completely giving up on sleep, she murmured, "I've missed you."
Zoey and Tristan are not the best company to be your partners in crime, they still do not have any cool plan. ;)
I need to give some explanation of how this works, before giving some details about some things that happened earlier ;).
Camilla is a medium 2.0, what allows her to interact with ghosts as with alive people. There is one problem, she doesn't want to deal with one specific dead man - Tristan. While dealing with work in Association, love, friends, and a lot of ghosts, she is trying to be the best version of herself.
