The class is surprisingly cooperative at the moment. I guess they're going to want to test me carefully first. Plus, who knows what sort of punishments or threats they've already been subject to. I frown as I head out of the classroom after everyone, stopping a moment for a couple of stragglers. Lets see, the 2 girls who arrived last.
Muttering to each other the one on the left is, Sayuri Taketa I think... 14 years old, anger issues I believe? You wouldn't know from appearances though, sleek black hair cut short at the back, short fringe along the top with bangs framing her cheeks, tall for her age and petite facial features. The other girl was Yuki Mochizuki, 13 years old, attention issues? Short, with chin length blonde hair and the fringe low enough to probably cover her eyes at times.
Arriving down below in the Rec room for the first time, I'm impressed to see how spacious it is. Reminds me of one of those air-force hangers you see in the movies... Except it's, well, underground. Big industrial hanging lights spread across the ceiling and a ventilation system runs all the way around the border, keeping the place warm and circulating the fresh air.
"Okay, now that we're here, can someone retrieve a ball of some kind for me." I look about hopeful. The quiet girl from before, Azumi, sprints away, her expression still vacant. She retrieves a dodge-ball from a sliding door leading to one of several storage rooms. On return, she avoids making eye contact.
"Ball", she mutters and moves away.
"Thank you Azumi. Now, I'm going to pass the ball around and I want everyone to share a little about themselves, let's keep it simple like, name and one of your hobbies, likes or dislikes yeah? Starting with myself, I'm Kai Fukami and I'll be your new teacher. I like good coffee. Just something small like that is fine"
I look about and decide to throw to one of the boys who had entered the class with Shugo. Jun Minamoto, 12 years old, sleek black shoulder length hair, black framed glasses. Cool, calm and collected, he exerted a strange confidence about him.
"Jun Minamoto, I like playing guitar and Shugo's mum." Shugo turns abruptly as Jun cackles, slamming his fist down into his arm. "Ahh, Teach, FUCK, help me".
"Hmm, Shugo, Jun can't throw the ball now, so you're up." Shugo sighs in irritation and wrenches the ball from Jun, muttering under his breath.
Gripping the ball one handed and moving his hands about to express his irritation, he speaks bluntly, looking about the class for a reaction. "I'm Shugo and uh, I don't fucking like being held against my will." He turns and throws it against the wall outside the circle and stares at me with an angry, spite filled glare. I nod in acknowledgement along with the other students, which causes him to shake his head. "Don't pretend you're not in on it."
The conversation evokes a variety of anxious feelings in me, the idea I can't be trusted is understandable, but it still doesn't feel great. All I could do was respond honestly, though he wouldn't believe me. "I'm not, but you don't know that, so that's ok."
The other boy who entered with Shugo earlier returns with the ball and interrupts further discussion about the topic. He was the shortest of the boys but was the youngest of them at 12 years old. He had short black hair and a piercing in his left ear. He appears to be very quiet and respectful.
"Tetsuo Nakada, I like cooking and have been learning drums from Jun." He nods politely and throws the ball to Azume who simply mutters in front of everyone and passes the ball immediately to Raiden, who glances at her and the class. Originally rocking forward and backward on his feet, he looks at if he noticed the awkward silence following Azume and looks to me with a reply.
"She said Azume Oki and she likes trains." Azume pulls his sleeve and mutters something while looking at the ground, causing him to roll his eyes. "Uh, steam trains specifically." Azumi pulls on his sleeve again and mutters again, "Ehh, and anime... Uhuh, and gaming- Ok stop, he only wanted one, most of us like the other stuff anyway." Azume nods in response and continues with a vacant stare. "Mm"
Everyone including Raiden waits for the next person to speak. Shugo yells out his name, causing him to jump.
"Oh, Raiden Takemoto, that's me, I like uhhhhh. Oh. Uuuuuhh." He pauses with a glum look on his face before responding, "I'll just say being outside, even though we can't- OH WAIT, yeah, BASEBALL, I like baseball."
"Oh, you mean like the principal?" I ask in earnest to confused murmurs, Raiden replying, "Oh you mean that Bitch-face Takahashi." I choke back a snort as class begins to giggle in response, "Language, no, no, I mean Principal Shin Nakayama."
Shugo responds in shock "The maintenance guy, that son of a-"
"NO DUMBASS, maintenance guy's name is Ichi Nakayama, his brother's principal of some school next door or s-" It was Sayuri who had interrupted Shugo before stopping and staring at me nervously.
"Ah, never mind, so, separate guy? Let's leave it at that. Yes, the school uniform you're wearing is from a legitimate school nearby, and we're-." As I say this, I notice all the students have gone quiet and have leaned forward a little, wide eyed in shock. I don't recall Akane giving me any restrictions as to what to say, so I decide to continue.
"None of you know?" The students shake their heads in response. I sigh and shake my head. "You're in Kamina and your school is Kamina High, don't your uniforms tell you?"
The students shake their heads, Raiden approaches, revealing the school logo does not present with its name. "Uh, so they've really kept you in the dark. Well, I was knocked out and woke up deeper, but I think this is the same place. I did my interview in Kamina, a town West of Kobe. I came here from there by train, did my interview last Friday and was knocked out and I'm pretty sure it's the same place. Also I'm pretty sure we're in a bunker facility of some kind."
The students mutter amongst themselves as Shugo rolls his eyes, "Pfft, not much to go on, the bunker part's obvious." There's something different about the way he speaks this time. He's not facing me directly, instead, he just appears to be staring off into space with his arms crossed, looking as if he's deep in thought.
