It was a bright yet lonely day as they lifted up their phone curiously, glancing at the date. They noticed it was late April. They mumbled to themself softly; a feeling had been nagging them for months, years, and they were too curious to hold back anymore. They were told to avoid social media at all costs their whole life but couldn’t resist the nagging any longer. They opened the app store and selected Twitter with heavy hesitation as they waited for it to download. Suddenly a shock hit them, deja vu of sorts. Their mind flooding with hundreds of scenes. Relationships, cats, games, friends they didn’t even know, heartbreak, fear, terror, horses, thighs, headphones, lakes, and images of people they couldn’t recognize collided with them, some causing joy and others causing distress. They rubbed her eyes and tried to reach for their phone, only to get bombarded with images of states like Texas and Ohio. They lunged for their phone, in the darkness with a weak whimper. Their clothes slowly changed, their hair got longer, and their body shape was changing. More and more chaos until finally, it stopped. The room was dark and two pictures lay in front of them. One was a picture of them in a similar outfit as they were in now, happy, calm, relaxed, and normal. The other lay atop their phone and had a person looking similar to them, though the one in the picture was almost infinitely more feminine. They had red nails to match their long red hair, a cat ear headband laying atop their head, a much more feminine body shape, and a completely shaved body. Though it wasn’t their appearance that was so confusing it was their expression and surroundings, they looked happy, yet troubled. They were next to someone they recognized, but couldn’t place the name of. Someone who looked much happier and seemed to be causing joy for them. They stepped back to look at their options, feeling so much confusion and distress. They were trying to choose their phone, the other picture seemed to never amount to anything. They looked at both pictures again before closing their eyes and grabbing one. Everything went black and there was silence. She woke up in an apartment, the wallpaper consisting of several colours in precise patterns. After admiring it for a moment she stood up and walked over to the closet. A blush struck her face as she saw some of the clothing options. After her shock faded she pushed the maid outfits and the lingerie aside, grabbing the most casual clothes she could find, changing from her soft pyjamas into a casual tee and a skirt. Stepping out the door whilst brushing her hair she smiled, the friend she saw in her dream was there waiting for her, joy filled her heart as she approached them, not expecting their immediate response of a hug, hugging back tightly she smiled knowing she made right decision in the long run a simple yet life changing decision.
