Thick foliage to his left and right as he ascended the hill, the school quickly disappeared from view. As Kai began to reach the top, he noticed the campus appeared to be a lot larger than it first appeared. Long narrow windows ran around the building just above head height on each the ground and first levels; a big dull grey concrete structure.
Ventilation scattered about the borders of the clearing and rumbled in a dull monotonous drone. A small power station was also positioned near the main building on the Western side. Kai's brow furrowed as a feeling of discomfort crept in.
Am I in the right place? This doesn't look anything like a school.
Hairs began standing up on the back of his neck. Perhaps he should leave. He turned half-way about and considered walking back. Pausing to gather his thoughts. He couldn't express why, but something made him feel uneasy about the place. Something didn't quite add up.
"Mr Fukami."
A tall muscular man dressed in business attire and crew cut styled hair had hurried to open the door and call to him, gesturing. The man had a sharpness in the way he focused on Kai that seemed almost like a hawk or somethi-
"I just discovered the buzzer isn't working at the moment, please come in."
Kai was taken aback a little by the suddenness of the man's arrival.
"Ah, yes of course. It's-"
"Nice to meet you Mr. Fukami, Norio Toki, I'll be one of your panellists. I spoke with you at the gate; right this way."
Mr. Toki continued to speak as they walked through one of several clean clinical hallways, polished concrete below. When Kai tried to think a second time about how unusual a campus this was, Mr. Toki seemed to take notice of Kai's curious glances.
"The program is state-of-the-art. Multi-million dollar facilities and has a heavy focus on childhood trauma."
Kai closed his eyes in response, subtly shaking his head.
Why the hell are they wasting their time on someone so under-qualified, this is a job for a specialist.
Mr Toki continued with a momentary glance;
"I know what you're thinking, why you? Truth be told Mr. Fukami, we have interviewed several applicants so far and those who were more highly qualified had so far proven to have... Issues with their ego. These kids are highly sensitive and can read people like a book."
He glances at Kai again to make sure he has his attention, raising an eyebrow as he continues;
"So we shifted to an interview only process. The kids are very sensitive to anyone looking down on them, they need a... Soft approach."
Both Kai and Mr. Toki passed by a security window. Inside were two more muscular men dressed in business attire, one facing a series of security monitors and the other was facing the window on a destop and appeared to be waiting for Kai to pass, piercing him with an intimidating gla-
"Security is of utmost importance to us."
Mr. Toki stated clearly as they passed.
"We have staff monitoring everything here for your safety and the safety of our students. Here we are Mr. Fukami."
Arriving at a door, Mr Toki scanned his pass before gesturing for Kai to enter.

Writing style solid. Descritpon great. Slow burn you didn't lie. but that's not necessarily bad. There isn't anything huge or flashy or action-ney and there doesn't need to be. Your setting up this world and ... mystery and THAT is what I find compels me to read more. IT has that got to know effect. Give them a little info but not to much. Side note this employee seems just as perceptive as the students he talks about.
This is also kind of a classic set up but I'm also unsure as to where it's going.
