“Don’t worry. I’m right here. I won’t let you trip.”
Gage said those warm and reassuring words while bending a little closer to Eva, and she could not help but tighten her grip on his strong and muscular arm. Somehow, the solid and unyielding muscles she was holding onto made her feel more secure than she had ever felt before. But…she had to admit that the warmth of their linking arms was a bit distracting.
It was also unsettling how he was treating her this gently. She could feel his support as they strolled along slowly, even though nothing had happened to her yet.
As they got nearer to the elevator, Eva took a deep breath. Somehow, she was not worried at all that she would get busted and be recognised. She wondered if her confidence was because of this imposing man who was walking next to her. No matter how he acted around her, Eva always knew that he exuded an uncommon aura. He was the type of person who effortlessly made the crowd open up for him without saying a single word.
At last, they saw the elevator doors. Some reporters were still milling about there. They all turned their attention toward the approaching pair, but none of them lifted their cameras. They just looked, as though in a daze, at the two people dressed like superstars and wearing matching sunglasses.
The way the pair walked in unison, as if walking down a runway for couples, made everyone seem to fall into a trance.
And just as Eva had expected, the reporters automatically moved aside as they drew nearer. Still, none of them lifted their cameras.
Everyone was quiet, and the only thing that could be heard was the crisp sound of her heels clicking against the floor as she took step after step.
The elevator doors opened. Gage’s hand moved to the small of Eva’s back, then curled around and settled naturally on her waist.
They both stepped inside, and when the elevator doors finally closed, the reporters snapped out of their trance. “Who were those two people? I don’t remember any celebrities living in this building,” one of them said.
“I think the man looks familiar.”
“How about the woman?”
“She looks like a model.”
“I think she is an actress. She’s gorgeous, and…their presence is just insane! They must certainly be famous!”
“But if they’re famous, why can’t we remember who they are?”
“Did anyone manage to get a picture of the two of them?”
All of them looked at each other and when they all shook their heads, all of them groaned in frustration. "This is unbelievable."
…
Inside the elevator, Eva let out a long, deep breath as she unconsciously leaned into Gage’s embrace.
“See? The easiest way to hide is not to hide at all.” Gage said with a proud smile. Eva could not help but smile back. She had enjoyed the thrill. She could hardly believe that none of those reporters had even reacted to her!
As their car drove out of the building complex, Gage began to talk about his plans. “I will be taking over in three days. So, you have three days to perfect your disguise.”
Eva looked at him with a questioning gaze.
“From now on, you’ll be Evelyn Lee, my smart, alluring, and sexy personal secretary and assistant.” He explained her role beside him, glancing at her with a serious look.
“Alright.” Eva replied quickly without a tinge of hesitation. She knew that this was the perfect position for her to do all his work for him, as she had promised. She needed to be stuck with him at all times, if possible. That way, she would also be able to watch him closely. And it was not only to make sure he would not do anything scandalous that would ruin his name, but also to prevent anything that might possibly cause his own downfall. She was well aware that a man like him smelled like trouble. That face and body of his were definitely trouble magnets!
“Good,” he nodded with approval at her decisiveness. “We will discuss more when I get back.”
When their car passed by XY Corporation’s building, Eva kept her eyes glued on it. Her stare hardened, and viciousness flashed deep within her as she sneered.
“You’re not actually scheming up a plan on how to burn the whole building down, are you?” Gage asked, humour gleaming in his eyes as he glanced at her.
“Yes, I want to burn them all to hell,” she uttered absentmindedly.
Gage smiled at her response.
“You sound like a villain now.”
“It’s their fault. They have painted me as one. So, I should not disappoint my dear ex-family members and make sure I turn out the way they view me.”
“How scary,” Gage commented lightly as the corners of his lips curled up.
Her inner demoness came out and muttered, 'Why does he look like he is excited about something? Look at that gorgeous smile. Ooh…it’s practically dripping honey! Yummm…'
Eva shook her head as if to clear her mind. ‘I need to stop overthinking. He’s just probably excited to watch some drama in action.’ She told herself.
But again, her inner demoness scoffed. ‘You’re not serious, are you? You really think this hot devil is smiling like that because he’s a fan of drama?’
‘Who knows? I just don’t want to think about him right now. He’s impossible to figure out anyway.’ Eva groaned, then clenched her fists as she looked at the company building again through the side mirror.
Just you wait. Just you wait…all of you. You had better prepare yourselves for my return.
