I hope. I made my way home through the market. It was late afternoon and the sun had not set yet. It was still very lively. I would grab something to celebrate finishing this task. For James and myself, I would pick something delicious. It was okay to splurge a little today. I ordered some fried fish and quite a few hush puppies at the nearest seafood restaurant. The aroma from the bag made my mouth water. These flavors would soon be appreciated by my taste buds. If it wasn't for my love of writing I would try to be a chef. But, I couldn't give up on my true passion. Once I got in front of his door I knocked on it only once and it opened. He must've been waiting by the entrance to see how I did.
James was so very gracious and it warmed my heart. "Xavier!" He shuffled up and gave me a nice squeeze. I returned the favor with a hug of my own. After he let go I walked inside. "I got food for us to celebrate. You did treat me to soup yesterday. It's only fair." He swatted my sentence away." "You don't owe me anything. Anyways, how did it go? Did you get it?" I smiled sheepishly. "I won't know for a few weeks. But, I believe I did great. I feel pretty confident about my writing. The man I gave the papers to did not seem to thrilled." I set up the fish and equally divide the hush puppies on plates while he thought of what to say. I could tell he had his gears turning. He always made this scrunched up face. "Why did he respond that way? Did you go something wrong? Or was he just a big jerk? I'm leaning more to the jerk side of things." I laughed.
"No, he just probably thought I completed it too quickly. I don't blame him. I'm probably one of a few that did so. Come eat." We both sat down and I gorged myself on the crisply fried fish and well made hush puppies. "Slow down young man. You're going to choke." I swallowed and said. "Sorry I'm just really hungry. I was going to have lunch there, but I got to a really good part and I just couldn't stop. I felt it wouldn't flow right." He made a dramatic sigh. "You and your flow. Eat up then" I shoveled the food a little slower into my mouth so my friend would not worry. I gazed out the window and watched the sunset. It was an array of warm colors. The beautiful gold and red spread across the sky like a blanket. I'll miss summer. It's my favorite season of the year. It may be hot, but it's still lovely.
I took a deep breath and prepared myself to relax. The pent up energy had dissolved and was replaced by a slight nervousness. It was beginning to increase by the hour. I hoped going to work tomorrow wouldn't be too terrible.
All Xavier ever wanted was to be a published author. Unfortunately the association has different plans. Creativity is controlled in his country and punishable by jail time. While he tries to go with the flow, there is something inside his that tells him to fight.
