Bakugou Katsuki had known Midoriya longer than anyone else, as much as he hates to admit it. They were raised together. They were in the same class for the entirety of their school career. They lived in the same neighborhood, and their mothers were friends, and have been since they were babies.
That being said, there was a time when Bakuogu thought of Midoriya as his enemy. An enemy he was determined to defeat, so he did recon. He learned everything about Midoriya that he possibly could. He knows that boy better than anyone on the planet.
So, when he turned and saw Midoriya standing there, completely still with silent tears running down his face, he knew something was wrong. Midoriya didn’t cry, he sobbed. There was never an inbetween for him. If Midoriya felt pretty much any emotion, he would cry and sob and hiccup as a way to get it out of his system. It was very similar to the way that Bakugou lets sparks free from his palms.
Midoriya wasn’t sobbing. He was crying. There were tears running down his face, and a distinct look in his eyes that Bakugou couldn’t mistake anyware. He knows something. He learned something just now. Something that neither he nor kirishima knows about. And it isn’t good.
However, even over all of these years of learning and knowing Midoriya, Bakugou remains absolutely horrible at communication.
“Hah?! What are you cryin’ about Deku?!” He hoped that this would come out somewhat like concern, or at the very least mild curiosity. But once again, he has sabotaged himself.
Midoriya jumped and Bakugou internally winced. There was no way that came across the way he intended. He sighed and controlled his breathing. He’s smart enough to know that if he wants to get anything out of Midoriya he needs to calm down.
Kirishima spoke before he could. “You sure man? Sure you used to cry a lot, but over the years it's really calmed down. What’s on your mind?” He always did know how to talk to people. It was one of the things Bakugou loved about him, not that he’d ever admit that out loud.
But then MidoAurriya’s eyes widened.
***
Oh no. No.
Midoriya sputtered, his mind racing for the best words. I have to say something, otherwise I'll look suspicious. But i can’t tell them the truth, i’ve barely had time to process it myself. Oh my god, Kacchan is going to flip out. He’s gonna kill me. I cant-
A gruff voice cut off his thoughts. “Hey, out here, nerd.” It wasn’t loud or angry. Just [adjective]. He looked up to meet Bakugou’s crimson eyes. His gaze was strong and steady. “Don’t get stuck in your head.”
“I-” his breath caught in his throat.
Kirishima interrupted before he could make a fool of himself. “We should sit down. I feel like now is a good time for a break.” He said it so lightheartedly, but there was so much authority in his voice that no one said anything. They just followed him off to the side of the trail and sat down in a small gap in the trees. “I don’t know what’s going on here, but you don’t seem like you’re doing so hot right now. You haven’t said a word since we were dropped off, and when i turn around you’re crying. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, but I also want to help. Can we help you?”
Midoriya looked between the two boys. They had sat in a sort of triangle formation so they could all see each other at the same time. His thoughts were going a mile a minute, so many things running through his mind, and too quickly to process.
He looked towards Bakugou. This time when their eyes met Bakugou was carefully expressionless. “I’m not gonna cause problems if that’s what you’re worried about.” He growled.
Kirishima’s eyes, which were previously trained on Midoriya, snapped towards his boyfriend. He didn’t expect him to put up too big of a fight, but he didn’t exactly think he would be so [adjective].
“What Shitty Hair? Did you forget we were raised together? I know when something is up. I want to know what the fuck it is”
“Kacchan I-” Midoriya started before thinking better of it. “Guys it’s really nice of you to worry, but really, it’s not important.”
“You’re important.” Kirishima spoke, soft and firm.
Midoriya just looked up at him. No one has ever said anything like that to him before. He’d always thought the exact opposite, everyone else was so much more important than him. Kirishima and Bakugou’s happiness is so much more important than him. He knew that.
“Do you really not fucking believe that?” Bakugou [] incredulously.
“I think I'm important.” Midoriya defended, “Just not as important as some other things…”
“Are you fucking kidding me?!” Bakugou stood, sparks flying from his palms. “What could possibly be more important than you!” he roared.
“You!” Midoriya screamed back, tears once again streaming along his cheeks, “You and Kirishima and-”
“In what world? Why the hell would I be more important than you?! Me of all people!” Bakugou gestured wildly with his hands, setting off explosions to drive his point home.
“Because I love you!!” He shouted. “I love you, and I love kirishima and I want nothing more than for you to be happy. And you are and it hurts. It hurts so much. But I’m not going to sacrifice your happiness for my peace of mind. My feelings are my own burden to bear.”
Kirishima couldn’t think. There was so much to process. However, he could move. He launched himself at Midoriya, tackling him to the ground in a huge bear hug.
And Midoriya couldn’t do anything but let him. He was so tired, he just wanted this to be over. He wanted bakugou to stand there and yell at him, and then they could spend the rest of the week in silence and get to the extraction point on time and just pretend this never happened. He was so tired.
“I love you too.” It was spoken in a soft, quiet voice. There was another moment of silence before Midoriya heard Bakugou sit down next to where he lay with his face pressed into Kirishima’s shoulder. “I never told you. Fucking obviously. But why would you want me? After everything i’ve done to you- I was awful to you. And here you still are, sticking stubbornly by my side. That’s part of the reason I love you. Also the a part of the reason you’re a fucking dumbass.”
Midoriya froze. This isn’t real. Bakugou didn’t just say those words to him. There was no way- “You gonna say anything?” Bakugou snapped, but there was no bite behind it.
“Kirishima-” Deku began.
“It’s how we got together.” Kirishima interrupted. “We used to talk about you, towards the end of first year when we started to get close. He was so hopelessly down for you, and so was I. I didn’t know it yet, but by mid second year I had figured it out. We kinda bonded over our pining.”
“Don’t call it that, Ei.” Bakugou grumbled.
Kirishima laughed and untangled himself from midoriya and helped pull the smaller boy into a sitting position. “I love you too. And Katsuki. And i’m so glad i do, cause it brought us together and i was able to grow to love Katsuki, and he grew to love me. And we both knew that we would always love you, Midoriya. Neither of us ever imagined you would, but we hoped. We hoped that you would come around, and let us show you our love.”
This time, Midoriya was sobbing.
***
He just sat there and cried for a while, while kirishima held his hand. He didn’t know how long it had been when he finally spoke again, “Izuku.”
Kirishima’s head tilted.
“He wants you to call him by his first name.” Bakugou rolled his eyes, “Now that we’ve established that we’re all hopelessly in love with each other, what happens next?”
Kirishima looked at his boyfriend and his now-not-so-unrequited love, “Well… if you guys want, i’d really like to be both of your boyfriends?”
They both looked at Midoriya, “do you want that?” Bakugou asked.
Midoriya “Are you- Are you okay with this?”
“I said I loved you, didn't I?”
“Yeah but-” he was cut off when a pair of lips roughly pressed against his. He let out a small sound, but melted when he realized that after wanting this for so long, he can finally have it. Kissing Bakugou is exactly the way he imagined it. Rough but so loving and passionate, like he was saying everything he couldn’t with his words. It was playing with fire.
And Midoriya loved it.
When Bakugou went to pull away he found himself chasing him, until he felt a hand beneath his chin. Kirishima turned Midoriya towards him before leaning in close. So close. Midoriya leans forward to close the distance but Kirishima just smiles, and pulls away a little bit before pushing forward himself. Kissing Kirishima was so different from kissing Bakugou. It was so soft and light. If kissing Bakugou was like playing with fire, kissing Kirishima is the cool breeze when you’re finished. He’s the relief after. If Bakugou was saying everything he couldn’t, Kirishima was understanding everything Midoriya didn’t have to say.
And Midoriya loved it.
