“Um excuse me, do you know where the great hall is?” Zach asked a passing servant.
“Oh, it is just down this hall to the right.” the servant said.
“Thanks kindly.” Zach said.
He followed the directions the servant gave and entered a large room, adorned with long tables and ornate windows, set with stained glass.
“Zach! Over here!” Nick called from the other side of the large room.
Zach spotted Nick and his father who was sitting not at the royal Dias but on one of the ends of the long tables meant for the commoner folk. When Zach got ten feet away he bowed to Morgan and Nick.
“Please please, you are a guest. No need for that formality either.” Morgan said.
“Here sit. We are having pancakes.” Nick said, motioning next to him on the other side of the table from his father.
“Zach, which do you prefer? Blueberry or Raspberry?” Morgan asked.
Zach was awkward when he sat down at the table. He had never sat down to breakfast in the presence of royalty before. “Oh, Raspberry please.” Zach said.
“I see you are a man of good taste.” Morgan said, looking conspiratorially to Nick.
“Oh boo, blueberries are the best.” Nick said.
“Have you had Marionberry?” Zach asked as he took a bite of the fluffy buttery goodness.
“Marionberry?” Morgan and Nick asked in unison.
“It’s a delicious berry imported from the Far West,” Zach said, “I only had it once when I was younger but it was amazing.”
“Huh, I’ve never heard of it. It sounds like a good treat,” Nick said, “Can we get some father?”
“Yes, of course.” Morgan said.
“So I hate to ask, but I entered the capital on my horse, Gilder.” Zach asked hesitating.
“Oh, he is being kept in the stable, I assure you that he is being taken good care of.” Morgan said.
“Oh, thanks but I worry that he is getting too spoiled, he has a tendency to gorge himself.” Zach said, chuckling.
Morgan chuckled as well and took a bite of his breakfast.
“So Zach, I finished the designs last night.” Nick said in excitement.
“Really? I would like to see them after breakfast.” Zach said.
“Designs for what?” Morgan asked.
“Designs for a short sword that I wanted.” Nick said.
“Oh? And how did you request this short sword?” Morgan said in a fatherly voice.
“I used father's seal…” Nick said, chastised.
“We’ll talk about this later, let’s finish our breakfast,” Morgan said.
“Yes father,” Nick said.
“If you don’t mind me asking but after breakfast do you mind if I take Nick to go to the market to pick up the rest of my supplies for the project?” Zach asked.
“Of course, I need to attend to some other matters anyway,” Morgan said.
After breakfast Zach and Nick Saddled their horses and rode their mounts down the street to the market.
