So apparently, Mason was helping at the cafe, we didn't have time to explain the whole situation to him but we made him promise to meet us after his shift. He did promise, but kick us out of the cafe quickly, because he didn't want us distracting him or disturbing the café.
We paid for our desserts and went to the bookstore in front of the café to wait. Mason was supposed to finish his shift in twenty minutes and there was a place with fauteuils in the bookstore we could squat on while waiting for him.
Once in front of the bookstore, I let Oliver enter first and told him I was going to tell my dad I would take more time than I was supposed to. I dialled my dad's numbers and called him.
"Yes honey?" he immediately picked up the phone
"Hey dad, I wanted to let you know I will come home later than I text you"
"At what hour?"
"Hmm, I don't know? maybe 7 PM?" but I didn't know how hard it could be to convince and I still wanted to spend time alone with Oliver "or 8 PM?"
"Are you coming home alone?"
"Maybe? One of my friends has a car so he can drop me off I guess" I said as nonchalantly as I could
"Alright, where are you?"
"Oh we're at the bookstore" I answered lightly
There was a silence
"Dad?" I called him
"Sean seriously?" he sighed loudly through the phone "Didn't we go through that already? The library then the bookstore, you could be more inventive"
"No!!" I exclaimed understanding what he was getting at "Dad, I promise I am really at the bookstore" he still seemed doubtful or suspicious so I add quietly "but maybe with my date"
I literally could hear him smirk and think 'I knew it', but he didn't say those, he said way worse "You can stay but then you're coming home with your date, I want to see him. See you later"
He then hanged up and I was here looking at my phone dumbfounded
