Ryer drugged me so heavily for the ride home that when we pulled back into the complex, he had to help me walk. We bumped into Alessio and Andrei on the way inside and they grilled Ryer because I apparently looked higher than shit.
“His lights are on but no one is home,” Andrei said, looking at Ryer.
“He is fine. Just heavily medicated.”
“Ryer, what the hell did you give him?”
“The meds you gave me, the ones that were for extreme pain,” I mutter unsure if I was actually making words.
“Ryer those were for when he was in extreme pain.” Alessio hissed.
“He was, but I think one would have been fine, I gave him two.”
“Yeah, I can tell.”
“Sasha, How high are you?”
“Ha, very.” I snorted.
“Dude look at his pupils.”
“Ryer, you better put him somewhere he won’t fall down or hurt himself.”
“I have him handled. Relax.”
“Bed,” I muttered again.
“Yes, that’s a good suggestion.” Andrei snorted.
“Dad, It’s not funny.” Alessio hissed.
Finally, when we got back to Ryer’s, He tucked me in his bed and flicked on his tv, Which I honestly had never noticed.
“Stay in this bed. I have to go get out stuff.”
“Mhmm.”
I didn’t know where he thought I was going; I was high out of my ever-loving mind. My arms and legs felt like lead. I watched whatever movie was on tv, My eyes felt heavy so I closed them again for the nine hundredth time today since he had medicated me.
I felt someone shaking me awake lightly. Cracking an eye open, Ryer was shaking me awake.
“Hey, Hi, How was your snooze.”
“Better if you would have left me to sleep longer.”
“You have been asleep for over four hours, It’s two in the afternoon.”
“Huh, doesn’t feel like it.”
“I bet.”
“Oh wait, I know why because you stoned me off my ass with pain meds.”
“Ok, but you were in a lot of pain.”
“One would have been fine.”
“Two was ok too.” Ryer snorted.
“Two had me feeling like my limbs were lead and I wasn’t sure if I was actually speaking.”
“You lived.”
“Barely.”
“You are so dramatic.”
“Am I? Even Alessio was concerned about how high I was.”
“I’m sorry I stoned you off your ass.” He chuckled.
“No you are not, but no worries. The sleep was worth it.”
Getting up out of his bed, I sighed. I hate to have to leave the warm marshmallow that wrapped around me. I was going to come right back here when it was time for bed. Fuck the spare bedroom. If Ryer was bothered so much by me in his bed, he could sleep in the spare.
The kitchen smelled amazing. Whatever chicken stew mix he had made it was both good smelling and looking. Sitting at the table he brought me a half-full bowl of the stew and mentioned if I wanted more just to say so and he would get me some.
“Just a heads up, I have to put in a late-night tomorrow, Andrei asked if I could cover one of the clubs with Cade and I took him up on the offer, it’s better than what he and Creed are going to be doing.”
“What are they doing?”
“Empty the collection.”
“I’m going to assume I know what that means, and that Andrei is going to apologise to Lukas for all the new work.”
“Probably, Poor Lukas, He always gets to further clean up after us.”
“He loves it, He won’t say so, but he lives to be helpful.”
“He makes Andrei happy and so on, It’s nice to see.”
“Andrei makes him happy too, Lukas has had it hard, but Andrei is damn good for him.”
“Is that your professional opinion, Officer?” Ryer said chuckling.
“This sounds bad, But I think I might decide to keep working remotely.”
“Oh, how come?”
“Maddox offered me a spot here if I wanted it. Apparently, Maddox had decided he wants a special tech and weapons section.”
“Ah, that’s news to me. Will you be working under Jackson if you decide to take it?”
“I’m not sure, but Maddox was pretty blunt about wanting me to lead and manage it.”
“It’s up to you Sasha, but first things first, we get you back to field ready.”
“I agree,”
Ryer cleaned the dishes well I helped with the laundry. Ryer’s phone rang, and he was quick to answer it. He wiped his hands off on the towel and brought the phone to his ear. It was pretty clear by the way he was acting and his choice of words, this was Maddox on the phone.
“I’ll send Sasha down to lend a hand and I’ll meet you in the garage.”
Ryer hung up the phone and was quick to move through the house.
“You are going down to Alexi and Creed’s office, they are going to set you up on computers and such. I am going with Jackson and Cade to get our drug shipment back. Sons of bitches took out the entire group of boots I just finished training. Fuck.”
Ryer was clearly pissed by losing the entire group.
“Ok, Got it.”
“Thanks, Sorry to make you help.”
“No worries Ryer, I don’t mind. But put a fucking vest on.”
“Don’t worry I will, I have a reason to come back.”
I wasn’t sure if that was directed to me, but it was enough to make my heart flutter strangely and I knew if I check my heart rate it would be racing. We parted ways down on the other floor after Ryer vested up and I checked it over twice. I slapped his vested chest.
“Be careful.”
“I always am.”
Alexi and Creed’s office was a mess, But it was understandable why. They were on standby for backup and were completely dressed up.
“Hey, Sorry about this Sasha we knew you're still healing.” Creed apologised.
“Like I told Ryer, No worries, it’s fine.”
“You should be pretty knowledgeable on the programming we use, pretty similar to the one you use at the station. You get real-time positions and comms, I can’t promise it is actually real-time but close enough. If you can’t get an active location, don’t fret.”
“Alright,”
Sitting down at the computers they set up for me on the spare desk which wasn’t really that much of a spare anymore, I had lived here a little under a month ago. I pull open my own laptop and linked it to the system.
“Yeah, I know this system, I’ve got it from here.”
The communication system they had was trash, but it would work in a pinch. They all had cellphone if I had to go another route for contact. Linking up the network, I slipped the wireless in my ear.
The connection was silent until I heard Ryer speak.
“Sasha you got us up on the network?”
“Absolutely. You are good my end.”
“You have Cade and Jackson online as well?”
“Cade, Jackson, hear me?”
“Got you,”
“Loud and clear.”
“We are clear on my end to go.”
“We are heading out now.”
“Ok, I see you moving,”
Everything was active and running smoothly for the moment. With my laptop, I used the cameras on the highway to follow exactly where they were at the moment. I only had access throughout our area, but it was easy to hack the other networks so I wasn’t worried about not having eyes. Two more connections jumped on the network. Alexi and Creed, I was betting.
“Hey, Just us. Maddox sent us with them as well, just to be safe.” Alexi said.
“Ok, I’ll rope in you. Hey, Creed you got me?”
“Yes, I can hear you.”
“Good, Glad to hear it.”
“You guys are slightly back from the other, about a mile behind, I can find you a quicker way to catch up, Just turn on the next right and it should spit you out pretty close to them.”
“Sounds good.”
Maddox and Andrei dropped in well I was scanning traffic and making sure the system my running still, All while hacking more cameras.
“Gentlemen on the end of the lines, you might experience some feedback as I switch you from this network to a nicer borrowed one.”
The lines dropped but were quick to spring back to life.
“And we should be live once more, Check-in?”
“I’m alive,” (Jackson)
“Me too,” (Alexi)
“I’m active,” (Cade)
“Loud and clear.” (Creed)
“This is the worst radio station ever,” Ryer said sighing.
“This should be a better-ranged network, and the folks I borrowed it from will none the wiser.”
“Who did you borrow from?”
“Feds, But they won’t even notice. That network is so packed the back channels are ignored, and unless you know the system, you wouldn’t even know they are there, and this is locked and protected.”
“Sasha one day you will get caught.” Ryer groaned.
“Doubt it, But if that happens I have friends in high places who owe me favours and I’ll cash them.”
They were approaching the port and getting ready to engage.
“I’m here if you need anything, just let me know.”
Turning away from the computer, Maddox and Andrei were sitting on the couch looking pretty relaxed.
“Did you think about my offer Sasha? You would be a good addition here.”
“Yeah, I definitely thought about it, and I’ll probably take you up on the offer, once I know if I can return to field ready status.”
“Sounds good to me Sasha, Spot yours just let me know.”
