A shiny, green Reign DR 2045 parallel parks beside the suburbian driveway. On the back window, a family of three stick figures smile and hold hands. As the engine shuts down, the blue glow of the rims fades out. The driver side door opens vertically for Percy to step out, and he asks his passenger, "You getting out?" "No," Komo replies, looking out the backseat window with a bored look on her face. She wears the same black shorts and T-shirt from the day before, which seem a tad small for her.
Percy locked the car with his fob as he walked up the driveway. The two-story house looked to be built in the 2020s with that era's approach on modern. Before stepping up the porch steps, the front door opens, and Percy is greeted with Gren and his crying mother. "Are you sure you packed enough underwear?" "Yes, I'm sure," the blushing boy replied. "And you remembered to bring your pillow? I know you have trouble sleeping without it." "Mom-" "Snacks! I forgot to pack you some sn-" "Mom!" The woman in her late thirties looks sad, then smothers her son with a hug. "Have fun, baby. You'll do great."
A kiss on the cheek leaves a lipstick stain on Gren, barely noticeable due to his already red face. Percy chuckles. "Don't feel embarrassed, kid. When I first moved out it was the same way." Still in the car, Komo watches Gren's father step outside and give him a hug. Slowly her expression softens, and she turns her head away. "Son, I'm so proud of you," says the balding man, I can't wait to see how much good you'll do." Moisture in Gren's eyes steadily builds until the dams burst.
As the family trio hug and cry, Percy watches with a drop of sweat rolling down his face. Alright, I didn't cry this much when I moved out. The mentor clears his throat and picks up two heavy bags, "Let's go, kid." Finally Gren's parents release him, and he struggles to lift another pair of luggage bags. "Bye Mom! Bye Dad! I love you!" "We love you too, son!" they both reply.
After aggressively forcing the last bag in the trunk, Percy slams it down, rocking the entire car. He sits back in the driver's seat and looks at his apprentices through the rearview mirror. "Next stop, your new home for the summer..." To the mentor's annoyance, Gren is still silently crying while Komo pokes his face. "Heh, crybaby." Percy rolls his eyes and returns his gaze to the road ahead of him. "Oh boy." The green Reign lights up and takes off down the road towards the dense skyscraper jungle of Zion City.
Komo struggled to keep her balance, carrying a triple stack of luggage. Gren carried one bag at his side, while Percy unlocked the front door to his house. At the edge of the driveway stood a sign that said, 'The Petersons.' The ninja boy marveled at the similar appearance of his mentor's home to his own. White walls were divided by an all-glass wall which was too tinted to see through. The upstairs had the same windows as well, but something changed when Percy opened the front door. All windows became much less dark, allowing the dining table and livingroom to be visible. Must like his privacy, Gren thought.
The grunting Komo entered first and dropped the three heavy bags to the shiny, tile floor. Gren gently placed his single bag down after. The kitchen with expensive looking electronics appeared immediately to their right, with the dining table to the left. Beyond that was the livingroom with a high ceiling. A spiral staircase with thin steps lead upstairs, and further down the right was a hallway. "Welcome to your temporary home. Hope you like it." The teens reacted very differently. Gren seemed impressed but was used to seeing nice interior in his own family house. Komo on the other hand looked in awe, like she had never seen something quite like it.
"Daddy!" From the spiral staircase a little girl with twin puff hair ran down. Percy scooped her up in his arms and spun around. "I woke up and you were gone," says the pouting girl. Percy counters with a smile. "That's because daddy was picking up some new friends." The loving father places his daughter down and puts his hand on Gren's shoulder. "This boy's name is Gren. He'll be living with us for the next two months. Say hello, Penelope." The little girl looks up at the teen, who waves and says, "Hi." Immediately she wraps her arms around his legs. "Big brother!" Gren's heart melts from the amount of cuteness. SHE'S ADORABLE!!
The smiling Percy then crouches down and points to his other apprentice. "And this girl's name is Komo." The adorable toddler looks up again, but Komo doesn't react. "That's a girl?" Penelope's question puts an angry face on the teen, which sends her running away scared behind another pair of legs. The mother acts surprised for a moment then holds her daughter. "Sorry, Komo. Penelope is very hit or miss with strangers. I'm sure she'll warm up to you."
Percy moves to his wife's side and kisses her lips. "And this is my beautiful, outstanding, wonderful, amazing, smoking hot wife, Dove." The woman leans forward and whispers, "He says this everytime we have guests." "For a reason," Percy adds. Despite being in her mid-thirties, Dove could pass for a college student. Her black hair had great volume, and her business blazer and skirt seemed almost out of place in the home. "I would stay and chat, but I've got a web meeting in like, two minutes so...see you at dinner."
Dove scales the spiral stairs with Penelope in her arms, while her husband leads his apprentices down the right hall and opens two doors. "Door on your right is the bathroom, and on the left is the spare bed." Inside the teens find a twin sized bed with a night stand, walk-in closet, dresser, and flat screen TV. However, a problem arises. "Unfortunately I only prepared for one apprentice, so one of you will have to sleep on the couch." Before Gren could fully raise his hand to speak, Komo says, "Dibs on the couch." Without wasting a second, the girl runs back into the livingroom and jumps onto her new 'bed'. Her eyes roll back in total comfort, as she sinks into the soft cushions. "Ah, this is nice."
Both teens now sat down in the livingroom, listening to Percy in front of the wall mounted TV and fireplace. "So there are a few house rules:
#1 Don't make a mess unless you clean it up immediately after.
#2 Upstairs is off limits, unless Dove or I specifically allow it.
#3 No loud noises after Penelope's bedtime, 9 PM, and
#4 Absolutely, under no circumstances, do you leave the house without telling me."
Gren immediately nodded and said, "Yes sir!" but Komo looked somewhat annoyed. "Wait, I have to tell you when I go outside? That's really lame." "I understand the frustration, but it's just so I can keep you kids safe," Percy explained. Still Komo didn't seem happy and crossed her arms. Trying to turn the mood, the mentor walked over to the sliding doors of the livingroom. "Oh, and one more thing. You two have total access to this." The curtains on the glass door and windows were pulled away, revealing the backyard. "Whoa!" both teens said at once. "What are you waiting for?" Percy asked, "Go check it out!"
