Asher wondered if he was imagining things. A wolf turned into a woman.
Shifters.
His
mind found answers for him, but the problem arose with his heart. It
wasn't denying it. Instead, his heart was telling him that it was
normal. And the worst was his heart was telling him that he belonged
here.
“So... that answers everything,” Asher muttered.
“Look, we…” Frank tried to explain.
But Fable, who was a female version of the twins, knocked the air out of him. She punched him in the stomach before hugging him.
“Oh,
Ethan. Where have you been? I have been searching for you in all the
places. That bastard said you are dead and…” Fable pointed at Frank and
started to brawl her eyes on his shoulder.
“Ethan, Ethan…” Asher saw a small child who refused to grow inside her.
He placed his hand on the top of her head. He patted her head.
“You
know, Ethan would have loved you too. He would have seen you as his own
child. Not as a little cousin.” He had no idea why he said that.
Asher's words made her look at his face in confusion. He thought that she understood. But he never expected her response.
“Not little cousin. I am the older one.”
She knocked Asher on his head. He looked at her, stunned. No one ever dared to touch him in his head, even his brother.
“You
became an alpha. So you think you have a right to forget your own
family. Too bad. Ethan. I am the elder one. Next is Fred. Then frank.
Then you. You are the baby. Huh. Did someone hit you on your head?”
Fable ranted and picked up the pup, who was proudly sitting next to his leg. She rubbed the pup without acknowledging his shock.
Asher turned to look at the twins.
Fred's cheeks were red. Frank looked like he had enough. They were tired of their elder sister.
“Asher,
I am sorry. Even when Ethan became an alpha, she treated him like a
little brother. Kind-hearted Ethan never stopped her. Sorry.” Frank
apologized.
“Yeah, it’s great that she didn’t spank your ass for
messing up the family tree.” Someone said from the crowd, which drew a
few chuckles from others.
Their expression was like, 'We knew it. So we tried to save you, but you got caught in this shit on your own.'
“Fable, this is Asher.” Frank tried to explain.
“Huh?” She scratched the pup's ear and kissed its head.
“Not Ethan, ASHER,” Fred muttered.
“No, it’s Ethan.” Fabled nodded solemnly.
‘Idiot, you were an Alpha’s cousin. How can you not know your own cousin? Even after you grew up with him?”
“Exactly,
my wolf screams for her long-lost brother when I see him. So it's
Ethan. Period. Ethan? Did you get reincarnation or something?”
Fable looked at him to explain why everyone called him 'Asher' instead of 'Ethan' from his birth.
Asher
combed his head. What a fucking night? He looked around the people. He
saw a man in the crowd drooling at Fable. His whole body burned in rage.
He removed his shirt to cover her. Even when he covered her,
Asher's eyes never left the bastard. The bastard looked frightened and
looked down.
Fable looked at the shirt, then at Asher, then at the man who assaulted her with his eyes.
“Ah...
you are really not Ethan, huh? That man whom you killed with your eyes
is my mate.” She pressed her lips, and tears started to form in her
eyes.
She relaxed for a second that her brother was back. Asher didn’t want to hurt her.
“Think of me as Ethan. I am your brother, too.” Asher's eyes softened.
“I had a sister who died in an accident. I didn’t remember her. I guess she might look like you.”
Asher looked at Fable’s husband. He smiled his apology. The man nodded his head in understanding.
“Sorry,
whatever situation we are in. When we see our mates, we can never
control ourselves. We wolves were designed in that way. We come in
pairs.” The man explained.
That took him to a specific wolf. He looked around the forest.
What if?
“Mama,” Tony shifted in Fable’s arm.
He
looked sweetly at his mother before slapping her nose. Then he hugged
her neck only to squeeze it. Fable never bothered. She just kissed his
head, but her eyes were on her husband.
“Shit. It must be the genes.” Asher muttered and wiped his face.
Fred chuckled.
The
crowd looked shocked when Fred chuckled. Maybe it was rare. But Asher
didn’t care. He had enough adventure for tonight. It was nearly dawn. He
could see the light. He was tired like hell.
“I am going." He announced.
The crowd murmured.
“Where, Alpha?” A kid asked him softly.
“I need to sleep."
Asher didn’t have the heart to tell the kid that he was not an Alpha. So he ignored it.
He
went to the house. Chris was lying upside down, lethargic. He went to
the cage and tried to break it. They usually sleep together.
“Let me.” Frank came in.
He
removed a specific bamboo from the cage and easily opened the lid.
Chris came out. He looked at Asher but slithered into Frank's hand.
Frank smiled.
Frank nuzzled Chris. Once he had enough, he lifted his head towards Asher. Asher lifted him up effortlessly.
“Ok, bro. Let's sleep.” Asher muttered.
He
turned towards the bed. The wooden bed looked big enough for four
people. The mattress was made of the softest cotton, rivaling some
luxury pure silk he owned. He placed Chris on the bed.
Asher lifted his head and saw something moving in the trees outside the window.
The
moment he saw the figure, it fell from the tree. Asher could see him
clearly because it was dawn. His eyes widened, and he ran. From the
clothes, it was one of the prisoners.
“Shit”. Asher muttered.
Frank came behind him. He growled. Chris hissed at them in return.
He combed his hair. Asher knew that if he escaped, it would bring these people trouble.
