Deep in the woods, in the darkness, by the side of a ravine, a solitary hooded figure stood still. He wasn’t wearing any shoes and his feet had long been badly wounded and bleeding. He looks as if he had embedded himself with the darkness. He looks almost inhuman, uncaring to the danger of the night and the steep slope near him. He is breathing heavily due to his exhaustion from running. But the sound of his breathing is swallowed by the sound of the ravine that flows rapidly and dangerously below him. One step away and death will gladly embrace him.
“Kirill,” he heard a voice calling out to him.
He turns around to take a look at the person despite already recognizing the owner of the voice. The boy who is taller than himself looks calm but he can see in his eyes the madness and obsession that he should have noticed before. “Please… Stepan, let me go,” Kirill started to beg while tears flowing down on his face uncontrollably. He wasn’t the type to beg. And he also wasn’t the type to easily shed tears. He was the type to fight back. He never surrendered himself to fate. But this is the first time that he had come to realize how much he has no control over fate. And this is the first time that he is afraid of someone so much that he can feel chills down to the bone.
“Come with me,” Stepan stretched out his hand towards Kirill. “I will not let you go. Not even if you die,” he said in a voice that prominently exhibits domination.
Kirill hesitates. If he falls into the ravine below, that’s death for him and the end to his story. If he takes the hand that was stretched out towards him, that’s also death for him and the end to his story. But in which way would he rather die then? No. He doesn’t want to die. He needs to avenge the death of his twin brother. He must punish the killer. He must take revenge. He looks into the eyes of the boy in front of him, feeling deep hatred and deep longingness at the same time. Why? Why do things that are supposed to be beautiful turn out this way? Why is it that all beautiful things are lies? Why is it that this boy in front of him is a liar? Why is he an evil soul?
“Take my hand. Or I guarantee you, no one you care about in this world will live a peaceful life,” Stepan started to threat. A few silhouettes began to appear from behind him. Stepan’s good friends, Andre, Stanley, and Alberto are there now along with a few bodyguards. They look worried but calm. It was as if they knew that Kirill has no choice but to surrender.
Kirill is now surrounded and he has nowhere to run. He gives up. He turns around to look down into the darkness of the ravine below him. He has made many mistakes in his life but none greater than his choice to fly off to that small town of Krasniy and trust the wrong people. This is the end to his story.
It begins with the end. But it is necessary to remember the beginning where he first stepped into the small town eight months earlier.
