As I said, Vincent
College is a good college but has many students, so it’s sometimes hard to find
a place to sit. When I have my break, I usually sit at one of the tables that
are scattered in the hallways, but they are all occupied. Signing, I realized
that my only option was to go to the cafeteria; as I was making my way there, I
suddenly felt someone glomp on me from behind. I was about to ask what the hell
when I saw a pink bow and realized it was Eloise.
“Hey, Eloise, how are you?”
Eloise then excitedly said, “I am good. My professor gave back our quizzes.”
“Guessing by your behavior you did well.”
“Yep, I got an 80% thanks to your tutoring.”
“Thanks, but it was all you as you were doing your best to retain the information.”
“Aww, you’re so sweet. Where are you heading?”
“I am going to the cafeteria to eat.”
“Oh, do you want to eat together?”
“Sure.”
We entered the cafeteria and were able to find a place to sit down. While Eloise went heat to eat up her pasta container, I began eating my own lunch. When she returned, we began chatting. However, that came to a halt when Eloise pointed to the entrance to the cafeteria. “Isn’t that Nova?”
I looked in the direction she was pointing and saw a girl with short hair with bangs holding a pizza box. After doing a double take, Eloise was indeed correct, “Yeah, your right.”
Following my confirmation, Eloise shouted for Nova, who then looked like a deer caught in some headlights. Following Eloise’s ushering, Nova hesitantly made her way toward us.
“Hi, Eloise. Hi Minerva.” Nova said shyly.
“How are you?” Eloise asked.
“I am good. How are you guys?” Nova said
“Great,” Eloise said in response.
“Good,” I then quickly said.
“Why don’t you come eat with us?” Eloise, while pulling out the empty chair next to us.
Nova proceeded to take the empty chair and began to eat her lunch as well; she soon darted her eyes between Eloise and me and then asked if we would like a slice.
“Thanks, but I am allergic to pineapple,” Eloise said.
“Thanks, but I am lactose intolerant. Are you allergic to anything, Nova? I am allergic to kiwis.”
“Peaches,” Nova said while gesturing to the said fruit that I was currently biting into.
“Oh,” I said in response.
“Either way, it’s good to know in case of emergencies. How are your classes going, Nova?” Eloise asked.
“They’re going okay,” Nova said
While taking a bite of my sandwich, I then remember something “You’re an animation major, right; what kind of courses do you take?”
“Uhm, it’s a mixture of web design, drawing, film, and art history,” Nova said.
“That’s so cool; what’s has been your favorite class,” Eloise said
“Right now, probably Animation techniques. It is interesting to learn about so many different styles.”
That made me curious “What other different styles are there besides 2-D, 3-D, and stop-motion?” I then asked.
“Besides those, there is Rotoscope which is adding animated sequences to live footage, for example, the scene where Mary Poppins was flying. Then there is time-lapse, which is taking multiple shots. Then there is motion-capture which has actors wearing suits to get realistic behavior like in Avatar. There is also typography animation which has to do with text, and mechanical animation, which has to do with making 3D versions of mechanical objects.” Nova said in a single breath.
“That is so interesting,” I said in response.
Our talk lasted about an hour before heading to our next classes. It was nice to have lunch with others. I haven’t done that since I was a freshman. I also learned that Eloise and Nova loved pretty much any food. Eloise said some of her favorites were chivito, pizza, martin fierro and nachos. While Nova’s favorites included pizza, spaghetti, bukayo, and binagoongan. I didn’t know what chivito, Martin Fierro, bukayo, and binagoongan were, so I decided to make a mental note to google them since Eloise and Nova spoke about them passionately.
