This wasn't so hard. I don't know what everyone makes a huge fuss about. 'A little goes a long way,' and 'making the thought count' were platitudes I knew of but didn't put into practice until today with this task. 

I had the table set up in her office while she was out making rounds. One chicken strawberry salad with strawberry shortcake for dessert. One candle for romantic ambiance and a bottle of the house red wine to pair with everything. Nothing over the top. Perfectly metered out for a first romantic dinner. 

As the click of her heels down the hall announced her approach, I lit the long taper candle and waited for her to enter. The door swung open with a quick motion, and Eilidh stopped unexpectedly as she noticed the table and her office. 

"Am I late?"

"No. I'm a tiny bit early. But I wanted to make sure we could spend the hour you have together."
