Entering her house,Her home showed some hints of being empty for a while, dust and dirt everywhere. The absence of her father and some belongings consternated her. Though seeing her loose shirt, pants and boots on the table soothed her uneasiness. He didn't forget her.
She bathed as well as changed into those clothes. Gathering a bow in addition to some arrows, after packing a bag of essentials, left the village.
He must be in the cabin atop of the Hasan mount.
When she opened the door, her old man was chatting with a familiar fox holding a sword that she assumed was that magical one he wished to acquire. All of the missing things were there, which indicated he's been residing at the hut.
"You again!" They shouted in unison.
"Huh? You're acquaintances?"
"Sort of. More importantly, why are you living here?"
"Oh, I got exiled!" The veteran hunter spoke nonchalantly.
"The chief didn't like that I criticized how he protected his daughter but was more than happy to send ours as sacrifices."
"Dad..." Called in a meek voice.
"What a jerk! You should've taught him a lesson." Kyro chimed in the conversation.
"I'm too old for that!" Guffawed in response.
"Anyways, what happened to the monster?" Asked, his expression was serious.
"Jiya killed it like it was child's play! You should've seen it." He bragged.
"You weren't even there." She snorted with laughter
"If I knew it would turn out like that, I would've asked Jiya to hunt that hanlin down with me instead of those cowards!" He chortled with delight.
Her father repeatedly tried to reunite a bunch of men to end the hanlin but no one joined,he was too scared of going alone. Also couldn't risk letting Jiya become an orphan.
Ever since childhood she would get nightmares about a monster taking her away. Heartbroken, he taught her how to fight,so she won't need to fear it anymore. That built her assertiveness that to this day helped her face her problems head on.
Her father is her hero,he isn't anywhere near perfect or undefeatable. But she's grateful because he always got her back.
"Regardless,I'm glad the training paid off!" He said proud of her.
"Talking about training, when are you going to train me? We didn't get to discuss it yet." The fox inquired.
"You don't know how to wield a sword? Then why did you get one?" The man scratched his head.
"I thought that since it was a magical sword,I would magically learn how to use it." He emphasized.
"Yes, yes. That's reasonable logic." Her father agreed, nodding.
"That's just pure optimism." She bluntly remarked.
This year,Jiya was chosen to be Hanlin's bride,in other words,a sacrifice. After killing the man-eating monster, she makes a deal with a little fox.
When he gets her out of that forest she would return the amulet that the beast stole from him. But would a human and a fox ,the weakest creatures in that damned forest, be able to survive that perilous journey?
