After some shortcuts and plenty of hard work, they reached the lake, the gate to outside of this forest. A stomach-churning thing blocked the way. She launched the dagger at the gunge monster that effortlessly absorbed it. Without a weapon, she stood there nonplussed.
"It ate my…"
"I'll handle this."
He stated with such confidence that she felt compelled to rely on him. Nodding in agreement, she awaited excited to see him use his powers.
Unpredictably,he picked her up and ran like the wind. Then, proceeded to dive into the lake. Emerging from the water, they were in the exterior of the woods. Instead of soaking they were completely dry,the lake worked more like a portal than a pool of liquid.
"Finally! Woohoo!" They shared a brief victory hug.
"Just a doubt, because of the soul thing we're like forced to stick together?" Questioned a little jittery.
"We aren't,though fate may pull some strings for us to keep meeting." She assured him.
"It can't be that often!"
"Yeah,It would be ridiculous."
They parted ways on friendly terms, waving goodbye. They laughed that possibility off,for being too absurd. Little did they know their fateful reunion would be sooner than expected.
"Nice,I'm as ugly as ever." Looked at his reflection in the shining blade, snickering.
Finding the sword was undemanding, which turned it boring,Kyro was about to climb down the mountain on the spiked rocky side. Alternatively to going down on the same secure path. Essentially,to get some adrenaline.
"Oh right,I can't do that. Jiya would get sick."
Accustomed to being all alone,he didn't care about getting hurt. He only stopped himself to not burden her.
His overinflated ego was a protective mechanism created to distract him from the truth, the fact that he was a failure. Something his mother pointed out before abandoning him, after all who would want a dumb useless child?
Kyro's existence became limited to prove otherwise. Throwing himself in unnecessary danger and overcoming it made him feel worthy of breathing, like he was someone.
When he challenged the remaining Hanlin years ago,all that shattered. He wasn't just a nobody,he was a slave. A thing that could be used and discarded when it seemed fit,the sole motive he didn't do so was to further humiliate the fox for his audacity.
His stupidity put him in that position and he couldn't even get out by himself, someone saved herself and consequently saved him. Just how useless could he get?
A fox is a master of illusions,in reality I'm no more than a weakling. But this sword shall change that. It must.
This year,Jiya was chosen to be Hanlin's bride,in other words,a sacrifice. After killing the man-eating monster, she makes a deal with a little fox.
When he gets her out of that forest she would return the amulet that the beast stole from him. But would a human and a fox ,the weakest creatures in that damned forest, be able to survive that perilous journey?
