"Are you sure this isn't that hazardous path?" Asked unnerved.
The number of dangerous predators they encountered increased exponentially, there were even carnivorous plants. A flower literally tried to chomp her fingers. She was getting exhausted from being alert and fighting nonstop, mainly because she was protecting them both.
"I assure you it isn't. The shortcuts are worse."
"I hate this place! I can't wait to be miles away from here." She complained.
"Soon you'll be."
A strange sensation took over, they suddenly had a bad feeling. Then,a small and harmless furry creature appeared.
"Run. We have to run." He muttered terrified.
"Too late." A wicked laugh creeped them out, they noticed that their surroundings changed. They weren't in a swamp anymore, but some steps away from descending an insanely high precipice.
The fairy undone her disguise, showing her gruesome appearance. Her sharp teeth and claws, gray and bat like wings along with her penetrating red eyes.
She pushed the trembling human down, seeing these two paralyzed in fear was delightful, but when the girl didn't scream for help she lost interest. Motivated by her tedium she left expeditiously.
The black haired girl was falling down the cliff, completely motionless. She could sense how rapidly she was plummeting, although to her it felt as if time had stopped. Everything seemed slower, distant. Like she was absencing herself from the outside world.
The only person that popped up in her mind was her father, now he would inevitably have to grieve her death despite all her efforts to survive.
Is this the end for me? That's a shame, I wanted to live a bit longer. I wish I could've seen my father before parting…
"Jiya!" She could barely see the fox's staggered expression, his despair crippling him as he cried out her name.
Ah,I'm still wearing his amulet.
"Kyro, you were right. I won't be able to keep my promise." Said with a stifled smile, though not sure if he actually listened. Sharp hearing or not the wind muffled her words.
Taking it off she quickly threw it to him,it would be cruel to let him pick it up covered in blood from a smashed dead body. A strange sense of peace washed over her ,without any fear. She closed her eyes, accepting her own death without an ounce of resistance.
I always imagined dying would be scary,I'm quite surprised it's not.
Somehow,it was so natural that she couldn't find the strength to resist it,not like she had it in the first place. She's been so tired that it seemed like a chance to rest.
What she didn't predict was that he would jump to save her.
This year,Jiya was chosen to be Hanlin's bride,in other words,a sacrifice. After killing the man-eating monster, she makes a deal with a little fox.
When he gets her out of that forest she would return the amulet that the beast stole from him. But would a human and a fox ,the weakest creatures in that damned forest, be able to survive that perilous journey?
