At nightfall, everything was pitch black. A mysterious purple light lurked in the shadows. Scathach,a manifestation of upcoming disasters.
"We should camp for today." He spoke, concerned.
"Good. I can't see anything, except that purple light." Her eyes were almost closed,in an attempt to see better.
"That's the problem. it's a bad sign,human."
"Stop calling me that,fox."
"What am I supposed to call you if I don't know your name? Darling ?" He jested.
"No thanks,I'm Jiya and you?"
"Kyro." A foreshock interrupted their introductions with nowhere else to refuge, they hid in a hollow tree.
The earthquake devastated the area, the vegetation was scattered throughout the ground. Luckily when their hiding spot crumbled they were outside.
The deeper we go in,the more fatal things will get. Not just the wildlife, the forest itself is cursed. In my current state, I wouldn't last a day there…
Looking on the bright side,my amulet isn't in the claws of a ferocious monster anymore. Compared to the past, It'll be a piece of cake to get it.
I'll annoy her so much that she'll have no choice but to give up!
Hearing his evil laugh,it was evident he was up to something. Truth be told, for a fox he wasn't very skilled at deceiving. She presumed the advice her father gave about foxes wasn't much needed, that assumption proved to be inaccurate.
"I'm bored, entertain me."
"I'm tired,carry me."
"I'm starving! Feed me,woman!"
"Stop ignoring me. Is that how you treat your precious ticket home?"
"Where are you going,hey!?"
"AAAAH! HELP!"
"JIYA! I'M GOING TO MEET MY ANCESTORS,IF YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING!"
She automatically pulls out the dagger, slashing the carnivore plant that was going to devour him at full speed. She grabs him by the neck, glowering at him.
"Kyro, it's the fifth time I've saved you from monsters you could handle! Get on my nerves and you'll have to haunt me to get your precious little amulet back."
"How lowly do you think of me? I was merely testing you. By the way, congrats on passing!"
The little animal waggled his head from side to side, clearly contradicting his own affirmations. She laughed at his lack of consistency.
"What're laughing at?"
"You're a bad liar."
"Oh,really? I suppose you can surpass me."
"You know what?" She put him down "I'm sick of your attitude,I can find a way out by myself!"
"Here,it's all yours!"
She held the pendant turning her back at him, flinged something in his direction. He was exultant, until he found out it was just a rock.
This year,Jiya was chosen to be Hanlin's bride,in other words,a sacrifice. After killing the man-eating monster, she makes a deal with a little fox.
When he gets her out of that forest she would return the amulet that the beast stole from him. But would a human and a fox ,the weakest creatures in that damned forest, be able to survive that perilous journey?
