"New deal, draw me a map and I'll return it." She offered.
"Alright,I'll make the greatest map of all times!" Shouted confidently.
"Go on." She tore off a piece of her dress, letting in front of the fox.
"How immoral! A map is something sacred that can't be made so presumptuously." Started sweating nervously
"You don't know what a map is,do you? She sighed.
"Don't look at me like that! I'm not dumb, I'm selectively smart!" Affirmed agitated.
"Use that selective intelligence of yours to give me some directions." She demanded.
"Just turn at that tree,umm...then go straight till you get to that big tree, then ...argh! I can't do this. It'll be quicker if I go with you!"
"Wasn't that what I asked from the very beginning?" She glared at him, ready to murder.
The hanlin was the strongest creature here,no other dared to oppose. Once they find out he's gone, they won't hesitate to hunt us down anymore.
"We're easy prey. We can't afford to waste any time." She wore the necklace.
"Don't put me on the same level as you, human. I'm stronger than you." He scowled.
"What can you do with those cute little pawns, huh?" Retorted sarcastically.
"Once I retrieve my amulet, I'll gladly demonstrate." He threatened.
"Then, what are you waiting for?" She challenged, flipping her long black hair.
"Don't boss me around." He proceeded leading the way.
"I won't,unless you don't do your part." She followed behind.
After some time walking, the trees were way bigger and older, thanks to the sun hardly reaching there it was extremely dark. There were more dangerous animals and poisonous plants… the scenery seemed odd.
"Is it my impression or we're going even deeper in the forest?" Eyed him suspiciously.
"The fay messed with the paths to trap humans, now if you want to get out you need to go to the core of the woods."
"Aren't they herbivores? Why would they do that?" Inquired confusedly.
"They are. But they kill for fun." He remarked.
"That 's terrible." She gulped.
"Oh,you should get used to it,this place is plagued with bloodthirsty beings."
"With a bit of luck I won't need to." She checked her surroundings.
"A bit? You would need to be at least, the luckiest person in the whole world for that! You're-" He laughed tauntingly.
"Yeah, I'm pretty good at cracking jokes." Interjected Ironically.
"That's good news,I'll never be bored with a personal laughing stock." He continued the mockery.
"And I'll never face any hardships with my selectively smart guide." She tittered.
This year,Jiya was chosen to be Hanlin's bride,in other words,a sacrifice. After killing the man-eating monster, she makes a deal with a little fox.
When he gets her out of that forest she would return the amulet that the beast stole from him. But would a human and a fox ,the weakest creatures in that damned forest, be able to survive that perilous journey?
