At around the same time, in a wealthy suburbian area of California, there was a woman looking into a floor length mirror putting on make-up and observing herself wearing various outfits, most of them being dresses. Most of the time she was doing so, she was focused on her abdominal region, she had a slight bulge and was obviously trying to hide it using belts, straps or breathing techniques.
‘Booo!’ shouted someone behind her. It was Acelea’s voice. The woman screeched and fell on the floor. Acalea was in front of her. The woman looked in the mirror, Acelea wasn’t in the reflection. The woman rubbed her eyes. ‘Oh don’t worry, I’m real!’ the woman got back up from her feet.
‘You nearly made me pee myself!’ she complained.
‘Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to do that!’
‘Well what did you mean to do, then?!’ Acalea was smiling.
‘I just wanted your attention, that’s all’
‘Oh really?’ the woman was silent for a while ‘How did you get in my house, anyway?’
‘Magic’ the woman looked mystified as soon as Acalea said that ‘I’m a goddess’
‘Oh?’
‘I’m here to solve your relationship woes’
‘What “relationship woes”?’ the woman had a grumpy look on her face ‘I’m in a happy relationship, I don’t need anyone interfering with it’ there was a brief period of silence between the two of them.
‘Oh goodness, you’re going to be really difficult to sort out’ Acalea was mumbling at this point.
‘I don’t need “sorting out”. Just leave me alone’ Acalea was no longer smiling. She looked as if she were about to leave the area.
‘This is all for your own sake, Chelsea’ the woman then gasped.
‘How do you know my name?!’
‘Again, magic. I’m a goddess’ Acalea paused ‘And to tell you the truth, I’m not here to help you because I actually want to. I’m here to help you because someone asked me to’
‘What? Who?’
‘I’m not telling you’
‘Oh yes you will!’
‘No I won’t. You cannot force me, I can just disappear from your world at any time I want. There’s no use threatening me’ Acalea paused ‘And why don’t you actually listen to what I have to say as opposed to keep telling me that I’m wrong or that I don’t know anything?’
‘I never said either of those things’
‘Ah, but you have’
‘Huh?’
‘You see, Chelsea, you do not only speak through words, but through your body, as well’
‘Oh?’
‘The way you’re acting is that you don’t want to hear anything that I’m going to say to me, or that you know better than me. It shows through your actions’ Chelsea was shaking ‘You can’t deny that, can you?’
‘No, not really’
‘OK. So, could you at least give me a chance to speak?’
‘OK’
‘Thank you!’ Acalea was smiling again ‘Now, I did a little bit of scouting beforehand, you and your… partner sleep in different rooms, is that correct?’
‘Yes’ Chelsea groaned ‘So what? It’s normal for couples to do that nowadays’ Acalea groaned herself.
‘Chelsea, I want you to realise something: There’s a big difference between “normal” and “healthy”. It’s something I’ve learned very quickly about dealing with things in your world. I’ve seen a lot of people perform an act called “smoking” and there are people who drink a substance called “alcohol” a lot. They’re both acts that can be considered “normal”, but they’re clearly not healthy’ Chelsea didn’t say anything in return ‘Do you see what I’m saying?’
‘Uhhhh, yeah. But I can smoke and drink if I want to. And I can sleep in my own bed if I want to. I’m free to do what I want’ Acalea groaned again.
‘Oh, I’ve been talking to so many people from your world talking about how “free” you all are. You’re not’ Chelsea just glared at her ‘You smoke and drink because it’s an addiction. These things rule you, not the other way round’
‘No, you’re wrong. I do these things when I feel like it, not because some magical force tells me to’ Acalea glared at her, she almost looked as if she were about to burst out laughing. ‘And just so that you know, my partner is coming home in about half an hour, so stop wasting my time’
‘I can take you to my world if you like’ answered Acalea ‘Time in your world will stand still’
‘I don’t care, just get out of my house. I’ll call the cops if you don’t. What you’re doing is trespassing anyway, that’s a felony, just so you know’
‘Ah, but do you know what’s also a “felony”?’ she revealed a jar of a white powder. Chelsea gasped the instant she saw it. ‘You see, Chelsea, I can disappear any time I want, but this won’t. In fact, if you call your cops, I’ll pour all this all over your floor’
‘No, please don’t!’
‘Also, for you own sake, I’ll be taking it with me’ Chelsea suddenly looked furious.
‘No, don’t you dare!’
‘What are you going to do? Call the cops that someone stole your illegal drugs?’
‘Oh yeah, I will!’
‘OK then, goodbye’ Acalea vanished, leaving Chelsea alone in the house. She instantly grabbed her phone and dialed “911” onto it, before putting it away again. She later just looked at her self in the mirror again, tidying her hair and applying make-up to her face.
Three people in the same family are in rough patches of their life. One has been cheated on in a relationship, another hardly ever sees his girlfriend and the other is living with someone more than twice her own age. From the goodness of her heart, Acalea decides to help these three out. Mind you someone once said, advice is only as good as whom it is given to...
