CHAPTER 4
Once they were inside the steel door screeched closed, trapping them in the now ruined lab. The water rose again, quickly making it halfway up papyrus's boots before slowing once more. The tiny skeleton was nowhere to be seen.
Papyrus looked around frantically. “WHERE IS SHE FLOWEY?”
“I don't know. I left her right here”
crashes came from further up the corridor. They ran towards the noise. rounding the corner they came to a rather large 2 floor office. at the top of the room on a tall filing cabinet was the little skeleton. She was clearly terrified, clinging to it for dear life, trembling as she sobbed. The water continued to rise, making its way up to Papyrus's middle as he ascended the small staircase. He glanced back the way they had came. 'no going back now' he thought to himself. With a sigh he turned back to get a better look at the monster they were there to save.
“A BABY BONES?” he exclaimed in shock and awe. “BUT HOW? WHERE? I THOUGHT ME AND SANS WERE THE ONLY ONES LEFT IN THE UNDERGROUND.”
Flowey's grip tightened uneasily around him bringing him back to their current predicament. Scooping up the tiny skeleton, Papyrus took the scarf from around his neck and wrapped it around her. Hastily he took in their surroundings assessing the situation. His eyes fell on the small light flickering above. There, near the ceiling, was a long barred window.
“IF I JUMP I COULD MAKE IT” he said in what he hoped was a reassuring tone; and secretly prayed he was right. It had been so long since he had attempted a jump like that. 'Oh stars, let me make it' he thought to himself.
Climbing onto the desk beside him for a bit more height he jumped, reaching out his free hand. fumbling he grab a hold of one of the bars.
Tightening his grip Papyrus straightened his arm, allowing Flowey to scuttle up and out through the small gap.
Grasping the bars tightly with all his vines Flowey tried to pull them off, to no avail. “It's no good. They wont budge” he shouted over the roar of the waterfall behind him. He grabbed onto Papyrus's arm in an attempt to help him steady himself as the water in the lab rose ever higher.
“GO GET HELP. FIND SANS. HE SHOULD BE AT HIS WATERFALL STATION. IT'S NOT TOO FAR” Papyrus shouted back, attempting to hide the growing concern in his voice.
Flowey reluctantly let go throwing himself below ground in panicked haste.
Papyrus looked down, his grip tightening on the bars and the little baby bones. Still trembling she looks up at him. Tears streaking her face.
“DON'T WORRY LITTLE ONE. I'VE GOT YOU. HELP IS ON THE WAY”. He assured her with a smile.
'Please hurry' he thought to himself, turning his gaze back to the bars.
*
Flowey charged through waterfall throwing dirt everywhere as he popped up besides Sans's sentry station.
The smiley trash bag was snoring away oblivious to his presence.
“wake up trash bag... I SAID WAKE UP!!!” Flowey screeched shaking the tubby skeleton. Sans stirred groggily.
“Oh hey there bud. What's up?” he yawned casually.
“PAPYRUS IS GUNNA DIE!” Flowey screeched louder.
That statement was enough to shake Sans out of his stupor. Concern and dread washed over his face. “Where is he?”
“The dump. There's a secret lab hidden underneath it. The lab flooded. There's a long barred window behind the biggest waterfall there. He's clinging onto it. HURRY!”
Sans grabbed Flowey by the stem. “hold on”. With a crackle Sans's magic encompassed them.
They landed on a yellow patch of flowers next to the largest waterfall in the dump.
Behind it they could hear Papyrus screaming. “SANS! SANS! HELP! SANS!”
Sans rushed through the water. Seeing papyrus's now trembling hand, he knelt down and held it.
“Pap!”
“SANS WE'RE STUCK. WE CAN'T GET OUT.”
“Don't worry Pap. Hang in there.”
“OH MY GOD! WAS THAT A PUN? AT A TIME LIKE THIS? SANS!!!”
Another loud crackle sounded as Sans teleported into the room with a splash. Grabbing onto Papyrus he took a deep breath and quickly teleported back out.
Landing once more on the patch of yellow flowers they gave each other space, allowing them to catch their breaths.
Flowey dashed over to Papyrus. The flower had more concern on his face than Sans had ever seen.
“What the hell were you doing in there?” Sans asked, anger evident in his voice. “Its not like you to be so reckless.”
Papyrus ignored him. He and Flowey seemed to be more concerned with the bundled up scarf Papyrus was clinging to.
“Bro? Bro? Did you hear me?” slowly Sans gained his feet and took a step closer. His eyes widened and mouth gaped as he realized what it was his brother was cuddling. “A baby bones? But where'd-”
the tiny skeleton let out a wail. It had all been to much for her.
“HUSH, HUSH. DON'T WORRY YOUR SAFE NOW. I'VE GOT YOU” Papyrus cooed, rocking her gently.
Sans sighed and relented; For now. It didn't look like Papyrus was going to put the nipper down any time soon.
“Come on Pap” sans said with another deep sigh. “Lets head home.”
