On the other side of the interrogation room, a few officers chuckled at his statement, finding the concept of a machine trying to identify by a human name odd. Haru sat silent and focused at a table next to a female Auto Droid who was recording the entire interrogation. Behind him stood Chief Armstrong, Jay, and two other officers who were acting as guards.h
"Okay, Marckus. Let's start with the murder of Jason Daughtry."
"Not murder, self-defense," Marckus argued back.
"He was found with traumatic injuries to his skull and brain," K responded. "You murdered him in cold blood."
"I did not," Marckus uttered.
"It is your duty as an Auto Droid to ensure the fulfillment of your duties and the protection of your human charge. Instead, you killed one of them and kidnapped the other."
Marckus lurched in his seat in anger as his eyes flashed red. "I DID NOT MURDER HIM! I WAS DEFENDING ANNA FROM THAT ABUSIVE FUCK AND HE FELL!"
K remained unmoved by his outburst. 'That same flash of the eyes. And the clear display of human anger. This had never before been seen in an Auto Droid. Interesting.'
"Even so, If what you speak is true, then you should have made an official report to authorities," K responded.
"And they would've found nothing, they would've discredited a report from an Auto Droid. And Anna and I would still be at the mercy of the man," Marckus seethed.
"The authorities would've done everything they could for Anna. It's their job, Marckus."
"You try and believe that when you're caught in a situation like that. When someone you care for is in danger, when your own life and theirs is on the line," Marckus bit back.
"We are Auto Droids, Marckus. Our lives mean nothing. Our duty is to serve and protect our charges. We don't feel, we don't break or bend the rules placed in our programming, and we don't take the law into our own hands."
Marckus scoffed at this. "That's what they'd have you believe. I know what I am, I know what I feel is real, I know I am more than my programming. Do you?"
Haru's voice sounded over an intercom in the room. "Alright K, that's enough. We've got what we need."
K stood up and passed Marckus one last look before he turned to leave.
"We are alive, K- 101. Humanity can't deny that forever. And neither can you."
K stopped in his tracks as he glanced back at Marckus who stared down at his reflection on the table. K turned as a portion of the white wall slid away allowing him to step out into the other side of the room.
"Well done, K. We're finished here," Haru stated before turning to Jay and the Chief. "You have the location of the girl. As per our agreement, we will be taking C- 077 with us."
Chief Armstrong nodded in response.
"Alrighty then, now that that order of business is done, K," Haru said, turning to his companion before walking out of the room with K in toe.
Chief Armstrong turned back to face the one-way glass window into the interrogation room where two officers entered to retrieve Marckus.
"I never thought I'd see anything like that," Armstrong heard Jay utter, causing him to turn his gaze to him.
"That thing seemed to really be human. I forgot it was an A.D. for a moment. It was almost uncomfortable to watch," Jay said, noticing the Chief's gaze.
"Hey! What the hell, bot," The two heard one of the officers yell as Marckus struggled against them.
They darted their eyes back to the room where they saw Marckus kick an officer hard into a wall, denting it.
"Shit," Armstrong uttered as he and Jay ran inside. Marckus managed to get free of the cuffs and grabbed one of the officers' weapons. He grabbed the other officer who wasn't down and pointed the sidearm in his hand at his head as Armstrong and Jay entered.
"Stay back or you'll be cleaning his brains off of these walls."
Jay and Armstrong froze in place as a panicked look adorned the officer's face.
"Back away from the door," Marckus ordered in a dangerously low tone. Jay and Armstrong eyed the Auto Droid trying to think of a way to get to him without putting the officer's life in danger or just straight-up shooting Marckus.
"NOW," Marckus yelled, shoving the barrel painfully into the officer's temple.
"JUST DO WHAT HE SAYS MAN, I DON'T WANNA DIE," the officer cried out. Jay and Armstrong begrudgingly yet carefully moved aside as Markus did the same in the direction of the door as he continued to hold the officer hostage. The moment he exited the room he threw the officer into a wall, rendering him unconscious as he fled.
Jay and Armstrong rushed out and immediately checked on the downed man. "He's bleeding from his head!. This isn't looking good," Jay said as he assessed the man.
"I can handle him. Go after that thing, don't let it escape," Armstrong ordered. Jay nodded and drew his sidearm as he gave chase after Marcus.
Marckus moved swiftly through the hall, not paying head to any of the workers. He was determined to escape and get to Anna. Not too far away, Haru and K moved towards the exit when the sound of an alarm stopped them both. Haru frowned.
"What the..." His eyes widened slightly in realization. He turned to K who simply nodded before darting back to the interrogation room.
K stopped at the end of the hall just in time as Marckus came to a halt and backed up slightly upon seeing K. Marcus turned to flee the other way but stopped once he noticed Jay standing there with his pistol drawn.
'Not good,' Marckus thought in a panic. He desperately tried to think of a way out of this. Seeing no other choice he turned towards Jay and sprinted as fast as he could. He was sure he could get past the human since he was physically superior. Chances were that if he went the other direction, K would've just hacked him.
His eyes widened at remembering that one little detail about K before his body locked up and he fell face forward onto the ground. Behind K, Haru strode up and looked down at the deactivated Auto Droid. He turned his eyes towards Jay and narrowed them.
"I'd suggest next time you and your men make sure these things are properly secured."
Jay returned his condescending gaze with one of his own but didn't say anything. Moments later, a group of four officers were hauling a heavily-binded Marckus out of the building and into a vehicle to be moved to Tomaru Corp.
