"Holy shit." I breathlessly mumbled when I saw Eddy.
He was sitting at the front desk of the ward, seemingly completely frozen in time. It was like someone had pressed the pause button while he was in the process of biting into his sandwich.
"Pretty impressive right?"
Preston, who was leaning against the wall boasted.
I looked back and forth between Eddy and Preston, slowly connecting the dots. "You can stop time?!" I shouted out when the penny finally dropped.
"Yes he can but it's very dangerous." Peter, who just came out off one of offices replied. His comment made me realize that Preston's nose bleed probably was a side effect of him using his power.
Does Peter have side effects too when he uses his power? Wait do I....?!
I wondered but before I could ponder further about it Peter grumpily stated that we had to leave and then stormed off in the direction of the fire escape.
"We should really get going or he might leave without us." Preston said and pushed himself off the wall. He only managed to walk a few steps before he began to stumble. Quickly I rushed over to him and grabbed his arm to help him. When I touched him a rush of electricity shoot threw me. I grinded my teeth and faught through the feeling, determined to not let him hit the ground.
His weight and much bigger frame made it quite difficult to keep him upright but I still somehow manged to drag him along. We where almost at the end of the corridor when I remembered something. I maneuvered Preston to one of the chair's that were bolted to the wall and told him to wait, before darting back to the desk where Eddy was sitting.
It took a moment but then I found what I was looking for in his pocked. Before returning to Preston I quickly scribbled down a note for the redhead and placed it in front of him, hoping he would trust me enough to go along with what I was doing.
With the thing in hand I hurried back to where I had left the dark haired guy but he was gone.
For a moment I strange mixture of relief and worry washed over me. But then I looked down the hall and saw Preston and Peter standing near the security door that lead to the fire escape.
Last chance to get out off what ever is going on. I reminded myself but then decided that if I ever wanted to get rid of those nightmarish visions or rather powers, I would need their help. Fuck it! In the worst case I can just call Eddy to bring me back here.
With newly gained confidence I walked over to them.
"Did you drew a mustache on him?" Preston asked, when I approached.
"What?! No. I got his car keys." I replied and held up the key chain.
Peter approvingly nodded and then crouched down to inspect the door. He pulled out a hairpin, put his ear against door and started to fumble around with the lock.
To my astonishment it only took him maybe a few seconds before the door klicked and swung open.
"I guess it's not the first time you done this, huh?" I half heartedly joked but only got one of his emotionless stares back before he got up and went outside.
Preston put his arm around my shoulders, counting on me to help him once again. "Don't worry. He only stares at people like that if he really likes them." He whispered into my ear, his lips slightly brushing again my earlobe, sending shivers down my spine.
"Is that so." I tried to make make it sound as if I didn't give a damn but my redden cheeks and the cracking of my voice definitely gave me away. I didn't particularly liked the blond but the thought of him or anybody for that matter, liking me a lot still managed to give me butterflies.
"So which one is it?" Preston asked when we finally reached the parking lot.
I shrugged, having no idea actually what Eddy's car looked like. But then I remembered, I pressed the button of the car key hoping the car lights would blink but nothing happened.
Impatiently I pressed it a second time while looking at the few cars that where standing there but again nothing happened. Confused I stared at the key in my hand. I had been pretty sure that if you press it the car was suppose to respond, but apparently not.
Peter, who was standing to my right side, sight. "Preston, your powers."
I had no idea what he meant but Preston almost immediately understood what Peter had meant. The dark-haired took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
A second later dark red blood once again dripped from his nose.
"Okay try again." He said once he was finished with whatever he had done and pinching his nose to prevent even more blood purring out.
I did as told and this time the headlights of a car blinked.
The moment the doors unlocked it also made click in my brain. His power prevent stuff from working! That kinda makes sense.
What also made sense, and I probably should have known, considering I knew Eddy for years by now was that the huge pickup truck with an texas flag as a bumper sticker was the his.
Without a word Peter suddenly snatched the keys from my hand and went to the drivers seat.
With a little bit of a struggle, because I still had to help Preston walk, I followed the blond. I tried to get him to sit in the middle but he keeped on insisting that I had to, so ended I quiches between them.
When we drove down the driveway towards the main gate I was worried for a moment that our escape was gonna end there. But to our luck the night gard was a sleeping and the gate that was supposed to keep cars from leaving was open. Maybe he did it on purpose, so nobody would disturb him?
"So...do you want us to explain all this stuff to you now? I mean you are probably really confused." Preston asked and leaned closer against my side.
I thought about it for a moment but then shook my head. "No I'm to tired and my head hurts like hell. I need to get some sleep before I can mentally deal with this shit."
"Sure man. There is no need to rush it. After all we got all the time in the world." Preston replied and beckoned me to rest my head on his shoulder. Somewhat hesitantly I leaned my head against him, at first the electrical sensation was almost unbearable but the more I drifted off to sleep the more it turned into a pleasant tingling sensation.
----
It was already mid day when I woke up again and saw that Peter was maneuvering the big truck into a parking space.
"Why are we parking?" I asked, still a little bit groggy and rubbed my eyes.
"We need other clothes and some supplies." Peter dryly stated and turned of the engine. When I tried to sit up properly again I finally realized that I was actually cuddled against Preston and that he had his arm around my shoulder. Well that explains why I sleeped so well. I thought, hopping neither of my companions would notice how red my cheeks had turned.
"They have probably found out we are missing by now and are searching for us.
Also as much as i love this white tshirt and gray jogging pants look I kinda feel like wearing something else." Preston said and took his arm from my shoulders and fixed his tshirt. I couldn't keep myself from glancing at his muscles. How can one guy be this hot?!
I was so occupied with my drooling over the dark skinned man that I didn't notice that Peter had got out of the car and walked over to the passenger side.
He opened the door and helped Preston, who seemed still a little bit wobbly on his legs to get outheld, before he then held out his hand for me.
I looked back and forth between his hand and his emotionless face, unsure if I should really trust him to not catapult me back into the past. If Preston trusts him I suppose I can at least give him the benefit of doubt. I told myself and cautiously took his hand.
The store turned out to be more of a tourist tap, with a bunch of souvenir, tacki clothing, that nobody in their right mind would normally wear and over priced snacks and drinks.
While Peter went to get the supplies, me and Preston went over to the clothing section. I was rummaging through a bunch of ugly shirts that either weren't my size or hurt my eyes just by looking at them when Preston cheerfully asked, "What do you think about this?"
I turned towards him and saw him holding up a long summer dress whith floral design in one hand and a light pink cardigan in the other. "No!" I hissed, trying not to be to loud.
"Oh come on! Why not? I think it would look really cute on you."
"Because I'm not going to wear a god damn dress!"
"It actually is a good idea." Peter chimed in, making me jump because i hadn't even noticed him standing at my other side. I crossed my arms over my chest and rolled my eyes. "Oh really?! And why is that?" He slowly looked me up and down, making me feel very self-conscious. "There are looking for three guys. If you dress like a girl we will be less conspicuous." He explained and then looked over to Preston, giving him a strange look.
"Yes exactly! That's the only reason why I suggested it." The dark-skinned added with a sheepish grin that made it incredibly obvious that he was lying. I eyed the dress, it didn't look that bad but still I just felt embarrassed by the idea of wearing a dress.
"And why can't either of you dress up like a girl?" I aske, looking from one to the other, but when I did it almost instantly answered my question.
Preston had the muscular body of a football player and definitely wouldn't even fit in woman's clothes. While Peter on the other hand... well he maybe had long hair and a more lean figure then Preston but with all those tattoos, his three-day stubble and his sharp jaw line he also would never be able to pass as a woman.
"Fine but I'm wearing some shorts underneath." I sight and grabbed both items from Preston's hands. While walking to the changing rooms I could see from the corner of my eye how he grinned and high-fived Peter.
