It's dark as Avril is nears her apartment. She had to walk all the way back and her feet are hurting from moving all day. She's cold too, and badly wants a hot chocolate to defrost her bones. Good thing that the sweet voice of Cavetown in her ears had warmed her heart, she thinks she would have frostbite without them. It's been a while she had the opportunity to go out, and she's not adapting to the weather correctly. The only time she goes out this days are to go grocery shopping or to school, where they always have the heat on.
This time, Avril didn't get chased while walking the sidewalks of her town, which is an improvement, she thinks, it wasn't a pleasant experience and did not wish to live it a second time.
She can see the door of the lobby from where she is approaching, and she sighs of relief, releasing a puff of cold smoke with it. She starts to pick up the pace, impatient to get inside. She pushes open the broken door, finally entering the lobby. While she starts to get up the stairs, she texts Steven, telling him that she's home safe. She's interrupted in her writing of mocking Steven for worrying when she hears some noise from 2 or 3 floors above. She stops completely in her step, frozen.
Oh no. She's holding her breath, waiting for the confirmation that she's not alone in the hallways.
She got it when she hears a cough not so far up. Avril takes a breath, and decide to confront the person directly, convinced that it's the creep from last night. She moves up the stairs quickly, ready to kick and throw punches; the peace she felt in the forest already far gone. She hears the person gasp at the sound of her rapidly approaching steps against the stairs.
They are panicking. Good, she thinks, going even faster, suddenly fueled with rage. She's certain it's the same person from last night, and Avril wants to make them pay for the fright she had. She finally has an opportunity to go insane on someone, and this time she thinks it's perfectly justifiable. You could say Avril is pissed off right now, she's seeing red, even.
But when she finally arrives to the floor were her target is, she just stands there and stare.
Blue eyes meet orange again.
Avril's mouth hangs open when she recognizes the person in front of her.
It's the girl from the picture, she wants to say something, yell at her and squeeze out the response to the questions she has, but the blue haired stranger beat her to it.
"YOU !" she shouts while pointing her finger at Avril.
"I knew that I saw you leave this building one time ! AH ! I'm a genius !" She says, passing a hand in her wild hair.
"What ?" Now all that Avril feels is confusion during the monologue of this strange person.
"You have no idea how much time I spent knocking at all the doors of this building looking for you !" A big smile is visible on the girl's face while talking.
Avril is very confused. Do I know this girl ?? She doesn't think so. She would remember speaking to someone so loud.
"I'm sorry, do we know each other ?" She speaks, furrowing her eyebrows.
The girl's face fall, surely realizing that she was monologuing this whole time and never actually introduce herself. She smile at Avril, a kind smiles and says,
"Sorry, I didn't introduce myself; my name's Cassidy and I was searching for you because I believe that you're in danger !"
Avril blinks and doesn't say anything, only now showing a bored face back at 'Cassidy'.
What is that ? Am I in a badly written novel or something ? That's so cliché, she snorts, close to breaking into a full on laugh, but retaining herself to do so.
"Are you here to promote a new cult or something ? Because I don't want anything to do with this kind of shit, thanks."
Cassidy's face fall once more. She gulps, feeling rather ridiculous. She didn't think that that the orange haired girl would just laugh at what she was trying to tell her.
"What ? No ! I'm trying to help you !"
"I don't need help; you can go now." Avril starts again her way to the 3rd floor, passing by Cassidy.
"HEY !" Cassidy follows behind Avril closely, not wanting to let her go that easily.
"Listen to me ! You really are in danger !" She's frantically speaking now and Avril just wants to tune her out and go to sleep.
When Cassidy sees that Avril is in front of her door, she grabs the sleeve of her coat, begging to be heard.
"Surely you must have noticed strange things happening lately in this building ?! Well, it's because of-"
Avril cuts her out before she can finish, a cold stare in her eyes when looking right at Cassidy.
"No you listen to me now ! I don't care about whatever you're trying to 'help' me from. You don't know me, and I sure as hell don't want to know you. And maybe, yes, I did have a weird week, but that's none of your damn business. Now get out of this building before I call the cops for harassment."
Avril is smaller in size compared to Cassidy, but right now, the other girl has rarely felt so small.
Cassidy backs out, taking a steps backward, a little scrared to speak now. She looks at her shoes, avoiding the gaze Avril is giving her.
Avril turns back to her door, unlocking it and going inside without sparring another glance at the pretty blue eyes.
Ghosts, angry spirits, demons, and many other names, are known around the world by absolutely everyone. Lots of people say they have seen, heard, and even photographed or taken videos of a ghost. Yet there are still skeptics who do not believe in it.
This is the case of Avril, 19, who never believed in them. But when weird things start to happen in her tiny apartment, she can only remember that radio show that talkes about paranormals from 6 to 7:30 p.m..
