Sometime the following day, I was given the lengthy explanation to why my family is gifted. James was very knowledgable in the subject. He was obviously a genius when it came to the supernatural and the royal families.
"At the start of time, it wasn't only the basic humans who existed. Many years ago, the people had discovered the use of magic and the enhancing of supernatural abilities. As this era came to end, the most experienced of all the people came together and gifted one family with all the power ever gathered by the people. They knew that it they did not entrust it to someone, a war could break out between the people. This family, evidently, is the Ashtitan family. Unfortunately, all life forgot about the power, and the fact that the Ashtitans held the greatest of power became just a legend. I've spent the past couple of years studying these areas, and I believe that it is possible to finally awaken these powers. I believe Cayden has also studied these areas, and he knows you'll be the one to awaken the power. Cayden, however, is threatened by this, so tried to prevent you from ever finding it. His plan didn't succeed, obviously."
"How can I access the power?" I asked, curious.
"I'm not entirely sure on how to control it all," he explained, "But I believe that to activate it, you need to channel the energy required through a strong emotion. Yesterday's event was through anger, but you can't always rely on anger."
"Then what emotion should I draw from?" I questioned, unsure.
"It all depends on the moment, prince. If you are happy, draw from happiness, or if you are sad, draw from sadness. You get the idea." Well, now I guessed I'd have to work out what feeling reigned above which and when.
As time went on, James taught me the basics to everything I would need to know - combat, mindset, general skills. Accessesing powers is truly nowhere near as easy as it is for the fictional heroes. Over the next couple of months, I became tired beyond any tiredness I'd felt before. Though it didn't bother me. My sights were set on reaching my potential, not gaining enough sleep. If there are people out there who are scared of me, one day they will come to try and hurt me. I need to be ready for that.
Katie and Francis returned to the outcasts as spies. Now that Cayden was no longer trustworthy, we had to keep an eye on him. They got us some vital intel. We learnt that Kaila was no longer in charge of the group. Cayden had taken over and had everyone bent on finding me. I knew I couldn't be found. I had to be somewhere safe. I couldn't risk myself to be used.
"Maybe I should go take the crown." I suggested to James at one point.
"No." he replied, instantly.
"Why?"
"If you hand yourself in, word will leak that you are king, even if you ask no-one to say so. Someone on the inside will say something. Until we can be sure you will be 100% safe in the position, it is unsafe to take it." It made sense.
Everything was fine, honestly. Was being the keyword here, note that. Nothing stays fine forever, and in this case, not for much longer. Before I knew it, I was already in danger.
"You need to leave!" came a whisper shout through Katie and Francis' comms one day.
"Why?" James quickly replied.
"He's found your location, and we can't stop him. I'm not sure how far away the team he's sent is - they set off some minutes ago. I don't know how long you have." James then grabbed a bag and stuffed the comm and some other essentials inside. Unfortunately, it was too late. A group of armed people stood outside the front door, and there was no backdoor.
"Fuck!" James cursed. We had to get out. It was safer to fight our way out than hide inside.
The people smashed down the door. They had weapons, we did not, well sort of.
"Mykle, please step away from the stranger. He is a threat." spoke one of them. Their voice was muffled through a mask, so I couldn't work out who it was.
"No." I spat, anger boiling inside. If Cayden wanted me, he would have to fight me himself. A couple of the people raised their guns and readied to shoot.
"ARE YOU DEAF?" I shouted, "I SAID NO!" This set them off, and they pulled their triggers. I saw my chance to strike. Gathering all my anger, I deflected the bullets, redirecting them in their direction, but not to kill them, just to injure them. The people were shocked, and in that moment, James and I both saw the hole to lead us out. We reached the grass outside, but we were followed. They were on our tails.
"TELL CAYDEN I HATE HIM, AND I WISH TO RID OF HIM MYSELF!" I yelled, releasing another burst of power which caused them all to fall to the floor. I promise you, I was not killing them.
James lead me to a small garage where there was a single motorbike.
"Where's then van?" I asked.
"It was a hire van." he responded, grabbing two helmets and a set of keys off a shelf. He invited me to sit on the back of the motorbike. I fixed the helmet over my head, and he started the ignition. The bike started up and the wheels began to turn. Soon we were on the road, and I had no clue where we were to go. Curious, I asked,
"Where are we going?"
"To some family of mine. It's not too far, prince, but it's safe."
Mykle has no family and no heritage. They have only their name. After the death of the royal family, Mykle is shocked at what happens. A strange mark on their arm. A mark that only appears on the wrist of the King/Queen's child's after the King/Queen dies. So why the hell is the mark on Mykle's arm?
