"Scott, get outta my damn way!".
"What and let you die again?".
"I'll get you outta my way if I have to".
I didn't respond to that, I just glared at Liam. Why did it have to come to this? Me fighting him? Just why?
"Fine, I'll do what I have to," Liam whispered.
He didn't follow up on his words immediately though, he was just staring at me. Probably waiting for me to do something, it was how Liam always was. He wouldn't strike first, at least most of the time.
"I'm sorry" he said.
BANG!
Liam had already knocked me down with a good shot, I was just so distracted I hadn't even noticed anything. And like always, I paid the price for it. Me being on the ground made things pretty easy for Liam as he came down and just let his hands go, pounding me hard.
5 years ago:
"Everyone, welcome our newest officer. His name is Scott, I'm sure he will be a great addition to the team" Graham announced.
I awkwardly waved my hand once he was done talking, it was a strange feeling to do so though. Being the new guy felt like going to a new school.
"Hey, it's been a while since we've had a new guy," I heard someone say. I looked up to see a guy, around my height, smiling at me.
"I'm Liam," he said.
"Hey, im Scott".
"Don't worry, I'll show you the ropes. We're partners anyways" he said.
I confusingly pulled out the sheet with the officers and started looking for his name. Turns out he was right, he was my partner.
"Oh cool, I look forward to working with you!
Present day:
By the look on his face, it was pretty clear Liam didn't wanna do what he was doing, but he was. And if he was gonna do it, I had to as well.
BANG!
I rolled out of the way avoiding his punches and clipped him on his lip while doing so. Spitting out blood, Liam came running back, again swinging his fists heavily. But this time I did what I had to, I tackled Liam sending him down. I literally heard his head bounce against the solid ground. And it was at that point, where Liam was completely vulnerable. He was helplessly laying on the ground with no way of defending himself, or so I thought.
As soon as I shoved my body weight towards him, he bounced up with an uppercut that easily caught me square on the jaw. It was now the sound of my head bouncing against the ground that was playing in Liams ears.
"Goodbye" is the last thing he said to me before walking away towards the bomb.
4 years ago:
Liam barged into the room next to me with the craziest expression ever.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Scott, you wont believe it. I got the promotion! I'm moving up the ranks bro!".
"That's great congrats!" I shouted with a voice that was slightly too loud.
"What's going on here?" Graham said as he came in, chuckling. "Nothing, Liam was just telling me about his promotion" I replied.
"Oh yes, he definitely deserved it, but don't worry Scott, you'll get yours soon".
Present day:
Seeing Liam walk towards the bomb was an annoying sight, all I wanted to do was go knock him out before he did anything. But I couldn't, my body wasn't responding in the way I wanted it to. If that made any sense at all, I had no idea what was going on, all I could feel was my upper body. And slowly even that was becoming numb, it was like I was getting paralyzed.
"I poisoned you, you won't be able to move for a while" Liam explained.
What? Liam poisoned me! How? Why? God damn, he was going too far, and I meant that both ways. Every second I spent lying on the ground, he got closer to the bomb. I had to do something, just anything to counter his poison. But what could counter poison?
"Liam don't!".
He wasn't listening, he just kept walking closer and closer towards the bomb. Seeing this, I thought there was nothing I could do. But then I remembered what I saw others do in this situation. The only thing I could use to counter poison in my state was pain. And I had the perfect way to get that. So, I pulled out my pistol, aimed it towards my thigh, and pulled the trigger.
BOOM!
Blood was everywhere, piling up on top of the injuries already scarred on my body. It was painful, feeling the bullet slowly pierce my skin was excruciating. But, I could somewhat move my legs now. Liam was alarmed by what I had done, but he didn't stop. This meant I was left with only one option, just one.
I would have to shoot Liam, there was no way I could fight him. I had no way to even stand straight, this was my best chance. Thus, I pushed myself to squeeze out every bit of energy and strength I had left, to aim my gun at Liam's shoulder. It was the only way to stop him, the only way.
3 years ago:
"Yo Liam! I got the promotion too. Finally!" I yelled.
"Nice! But still remember your two ranks below me. You're not done catching up" Liam said.
"Ya ya save it, just wait man. Imma be your senior officer later" I replied.
Liam chuckled and put his hand on my shoulder.
"I'm sure you will, Scott".
Present day:
BOOM! My bullet fired, and Liam collapsed in a pool of blood. I dragged myself with my arms towards him, and nevertheless he was alive. I knew the bullet wouldnt’ kill him, but it was over for him. He couldn't fight me now, it was my chance.
"Now you all pay!" I heard Mike roar.
I turned my head towards him to see him holding a gun! He was gonna shoot himself to try and trigger the bomb! Damn it, I had to do it. I had to disarm it quickly. I again used my arms to shove my body forward until I finally got to my destination. The bomb, it was even crazier up close. It was massive.
But I had no time to admire it. I had to disarm it quickly! So, it's what I started doing. I reached inside grabbing the power supply, and once my hand felt the burning sensation it gave, I took a deep breath and got ready to pull.
