Present-day:
I took deep heavy breaths as I ran down the dark, ruinous hallway holding my gun with an unsteady hand.
"Alert, Alert. Lockdown protocol initiated!" was on infinite repeat, forcing me to swallow it up with my eardrums along with the alarms which were blaring in my ears. Desperately trying not to be exposed by the cameras, I ran around and around maneuvering my way across the floor I was currently on until I finally made it to the place I broke every law for.
The vault. The place with so-called treasures worth risking your life for. Ya, that vault.
"Did you open it?" Mike yelled over all the noise, actually expecting me to listen to him.
"Well Scott, it's time to join the other side of the law," I told myself as I swallowed up all my guilt and just scanned the keycard.
"Access granted" is what I heard right before the oversized door opened up, uncovering what laid behind. What was it?
Gold bars, piles of cash, and instant Regret. To my eyes, it was nothing but complete insanity. I had never seen so much cash or gold stacked in one place all at once. "Did you open the damn vault?" Mike yelled again.
"Ya, the vaults opened. Come take what you need!" I yelled back.
Almost immediately everyone ran into the cramped room I was in, they made themselves comfortable as they all raced inside the vault. And by all, I meant everyone except Mike who walked over to me instead. He put his hand on my shoulder and started uncontrollably laughing.
"Take whatever I need? Nah, I'm not gonna take what I need rookie. Imma take whatever the heck I want!" he declared.
I sighed as everyone started filling up their bags. Needless to say, I wasn't one of them. Actually, robbing a bank? Ya right, I was dedicated to my mission, but not that dedicated.
I was wandering around as I waited and I thought I would be doing that for a while, but in a matter of only minutes the vault was almost completely emptied out. It was crazy, I just stood there in disbelief feeling nothing but regret. I honestly couldn't believe I was actually helping Mike and the others. It was the last thing I ever thought I would be doing but what else could I do? I hated it but I had to do what was needed.
"Guys, can we go now?" I nervously asked.
"Damn, someone doesn't wanna be here. Chill out Scott, just making sure we don't miss anything" Mike told me.
Honestly, I couldn't believe he told me to chill out. How the heck did he expect me to chill out when the alarms continuously ringing in my ears reminded me of the cops who were on their way.
The fact that the police could arrive at any given moment scared the crap outta me. The others? They weren't even phased by that. It didn't make any sense to me, everyone was just calmly looting the vault with no fear of anything. It was like I was the only one who actually gave a damn about the cops who could frikin arrest us!
I continued waiting for around ten more minutes until I was finally fed up.
"Guys the cops are boutta come! let's just go!" I yelled.
Stopping what he was doing, Mike came up to me looking somewhat calm, and somewhat pissed. His breathing was steady, but it still looked like his blood was boiling at the same time.
"Listen, rookie, I know the cops are coming and I know what we're doing so just keep your mouth shut while we work!".
Grinding my teeth I forced myself to calm down and just chill out despite every bone in my body wanting to knock the heck out of Mike.
"Let's go" he finally said a few minutes later.
I immediately took his word and ran towards the staircase ahead of everyone else making my way to the lower floor without delay. What did I see upon my arrival? The last thing I wanted to see at a time like this, cops. Lots of them, from what I could see there were about ten, but I knew very well there would be more.
"Guys, go back upstairs" I whispered.
Everyone nodded and we all sneakily made our way back upstairs somehow avoiding the cops.
"You guys spent too much time in the vault. Now look what happened!" I frustratingly grumbled.
"Listen, just keep your mouth shut. I know what to do alright. All of you just gimme your bags first," Mike said, staring us all down.
"What? why?" Tim asked in the most graveling voice ever.
"Just gimme the damn bags!" Mike hissed.
It was clear everyone was getting suspicious of Mike but he was the one leading the mission meaning he had the authority to take the bags. So, everyone just handed them over, Mike instantly grabbed them with surprisingly little effort, and soon he was ready.
"When I say go, we all charge the cops," Mike said.
"We're outnumbered, how do you expect us to get out alive?" Tim questioned. Everyone's eyes shifted towards Mike who just looked completely lost. We were all waiting for an answer but instead, Mike started a countdown from three. As confused as we all were, everyone just got ready making sure their guns were loaded and good to go using the limited time they had.
"Go!" Mike yelled seconds later.
Everyone immediately ran downstairs charging all the cops head-on. The only problem was it was a five vs ten shootout with us being fewer in numbers. Still, despite the odds being against us, everyone from my side viciously continued firing. The only people not pulling the trigger were me and Tim, all I was doing was ducking and crouching. It was all I could do.
"Don't stop firing!" Mike yelled.
BOOM! BOOM!
The gunshots were everywhere, they were so loud they were deafening as well as horrifying.
"Drop your weapons!" one of the cops yelled. BOOM! That same cop immediately went down right away.
"Drop your damn weapons!" another cop yelled. BOOM! He went down as well.
At this point, we were clearly winning even though the odds were not in our favor. Everyone from my side was looking pleased and excited, but me? I couldn't believe I was siding with the criminals as I watched all the cops fall. It was so messed up.
"Put your hands up, you're all under arrest" another cop howled.
As soon as he said that, about ten more cops ran inside the room. Right, when Mike saw them he started running towards the exit before they could even see him. He began running recklessly with no plan or strategy whatsoever.
I thought it was over for him but he somehow actually made it outside. Two cops saw him and ran outside following him but as soon as they did, BOOM!
They both went down. Following what happened, someone from our side was shot. And as more cops ran into the room, our men began falling.
Seeing this I knew I would have to get out quickly but looking at the situation that seemed next to impossible. Even so, staying in one spot wasn't going to help me so I gripped my gun tighter, took a deep breath, and just started running.
Bullets were flying all around me as I made my way towards the exit. I could feel the bullets cutting the wind around me as I desperately ran, and feeling that made the whole situation even more terrifying than it already was. But knowing I had to get out, I ignored all of that and ran as fast as I could.
BOOM! I felt something hit me slowly.
At first, I didn't know what had happened, but as my body turned on again, I saw my arm bleeding like crazy! I had been shot around my shoulder and the blood was dripping down everywhere. I was aching with pain, but whining about it was useless. I had to get outside. Besides, it's not like getting shot was that big a deal. It's been part of the job for a while.
"Get down!" a cop shouted.
I turned around to see an officer had spotted me, and since everything was so crazy in the room, he didn't even recognize me. He didn't realize what he was supposed to do, he just began chasing me! So well, I ignored my pain and threw myself across the door, finally making it out.
On the other side, I saw Mike throwing all the bags in a big truck, an amazon truck to be more clear. You know, wouldn't want anyone to know right? "Let's go!" he yelled as he himself quickly hopped in the getaway ride.
"Wait, but-" Mike cut me off before I could finish.
"We are not going back for anyone."
I looked at the bank one last time and then just got in the truck. I didn't wanna ditch the other guys but I knew I couldn't die myself. "Guys wait!" Tim yelled as he ran through the door gasping for air.
"Damn it, just get in the truck!" Mike yelled.
Without wasting a second, Tim ran over and quickly got inside. As soon as he was in, the driver hit the gas and we were off.
