After a few moments, he pulled himself away and looked down at Saku, praying the other wasn’t completely horrified that Suzu had just kissed him after such an awkward interaction with his fiance—ex-fiance.
Instead, Saku just looked pleased and even moved closer, leaning his face up as if inviting Suzu to do it again.
“Careful there Suzu, you’ve got me feeling like I’m in a KDrama or something.”
“I swear there won’t be anything that dramatic happening again.”
“Well there’s more than drama that happens in those shows, you know.”
Saku’s tone was so obviously suggestive. Even Suzu couldn’t feign ignorance after he went and made the move to kiss the other. But was this right? Was this seriously something he could do after everything that had occurred? Doesn’t he owe Saku better than this?
So where did this leave the two of them? Suzu went from telling Saku he couldn’t pick him because of his commitment to Jiro to completely canceling his engagement right in front of the redhead! There was no way Saku would actually want to be caught up with Suzu after all of this, right?
There was a soft sigh from Saku.
“You look like you could use dinner. My place isn’t too far from here, want to come over?”
“S-Seriously?”
It was like Saku didn’t care that he had witnessed the complete dissolution of his engagement. As if able to read Suzu’s mind, Saku rolled his eyes and put his hands on his hips.
“I’m not asking you to sleep with me or anything, I just figure some good food will help you, I dunno… process?”
“Oh, I…”
He thought it over. Being alone with Saku could be a bad move. It would be complete madness for him to just move on like this. But at the same time, the way he ached to stay with Saku, unable to separate so soon. After all this time they were here together and Suzu didn’t want that to end.
But there was fallout from his actions. And he needed to face them, he couldn’t just pretend things were going to go perfectly.
Except, maybe he could pretend as long as he was with Saku...
The redhead let out an annoyed huff and nudged Suzu out of his spiraling thoughts.
“You’re overthinking things, Suzu. I can see it all over your face. Just come over and eat for fuck’s sake. I at least owe you for my train ticket.”
“Technically I used Jiro’s credit card for those…”
Saku blinked at that and then laughed, “Even better. You used your fiance’s—sorry, ex-fiance’s—money to buy your ex-boyfriend a train ticket so you could spend more time with him.”
“That wasn’t why!” Suzu blushed and then looked down, “At least, not completely…”
“Uh-huh. Whatever you need to tell yourself to feel better, Suzu-kun. Now come on,” Saku grabbed onto his arm and gently tugged him towards the exit, “let’s help you not think about the fact you showed up hours late to your own wedding and then canceled it.”
“Saying all that out loud is not helping.”
But he let the redhead lead the way down the crowded walkway.
Suzu knew he should be filled with some regret, some remorse over the whole thing, but one look at Saku made it all disappear.
And then Saku’s phone went off. It was only a glance but Suzu saw the name on the screen.
Noah.
He had completely forgotten Saku wasn’t single.
