Daisy London. At the door stands the one and only, Daisy London. ‘Fuck. Fuck, shit- dammit- fuck.’
“Uh… this is all a dream…?” They cringe at themselves. ‘God, I’m such a shitty liar.
Nathan continued to stare at them with disbelief.
“What in the world…?” Daisy mutters to herself.
They turn to Nathan. “Maybe if we just leave…” they start. Nathan cut them off with a look. ‘Nope, too late.’
They turn back to look at Daisy with an awkward smile.
“Daisyyyy,” they drawl. “I’m sure you’re reasonable-“
She cuts them off, “How do you know my name?”
Fuck. “Don’t tell anyone…? Please…?” Jacob responds meekly, ignoring the question. Nathan facepalms. “Hey, you’re not helping the situation! Don’t judge me!” They retort in a shrill, panicked voice.
“OK, then,” Daisy interrupts. The others turn to look at her. “How about we stop talking?”
Jacob nods with a sort of eager panic. “Good idea, I’ll do that.”
Nathan treads over to Jacob and hides behind them, gripping their arm. He wasn't the best with new people, or people in general. Jacob’s chest blossoms with a warm panicky feeling. They glance at him nervously.
Daisy squints. She decided to ignore it for the time being.
“Alright, you two. Explain.”
-----
Bella chimes up triumphantly from over the video call. “Hah! I told you it wasn’t me moving stuff around in there!”
“Alright, I’m sorry.”
“Hmph!”
“So, you… won’t tell anyone?” Jacob asks hesitantly.
“Yeah, don’t worry about it. You’re all good.” Daisy responds absentmindedly.
The ghosts let out a sigh of relief.
“I gotta ask though, that was you in the roof, wasn’t it?” It wasn't a question.
“Shit, this one’s fuckin’ smart.”
“Oh! Thank you!” Daisy turned to the phone, addressing Bella, “I like this one.”
“Glad to see that my charm is appreciated.” Jacob comments with a smirk. Nathan, who had been hiding behind Jacob the entire time, laughs quietly, stopping when he makes eye contact with Jacob. The two of them share a fleeting moment before turning away from each other, flustered.
‘Hmmm…’
Daisy stares, deciding yet again not to comment.
Bella chimes in, “Wait- so, I’m curious. How’d you die?”
“How’d I… die…?” The light- and slightly awkward- tone left the room, replaced by a heavy silence. Jacob stares, filled with panic and crisis. Their mouth opens and closes, grasping for something to say.
Having noticed this, Daisy flusteredly exclaims, “Bella! That’s insensitive!”
“OH! Sorry, yeah, that’s a bit personal. Forget I asked.”
“Uh… uhuh…” Jacob is still staring off into nothing when Nathan tugs on their sleeve, trying to get their attention. He looks up at Jacob, and rises onto his toes to whisper in their ear, ‘Hey, you okay…?’
They jump, startled, then look at him, smiling sheepishly, “Oh- uh, yeah, sorry.”
“No need for apologies, dude,” Daisy reassures.
“Yeah, I should be apologising,” Bella adds. “And I think you two are pretty cool! Not every day you meet ghosts. We should be friends!”
“Oh! Yeah!” Jacob replies eagerly. It seemed like they had completely forgotten about what had happened moments before.
-----
“Woah, we got living friends now. Isn’t that fucking epic?” They grin. Jacob was floating about in a ventilation shaft, bored since the other two were in class. Nathan nodded absentmindedly, studying the object he’d picked up from the storeroom.
Jacob pokes his head out of the vent, with eyes alight with curiosity. “Whatcha looking at?”
Nathan, without looking up, makes a vague gesture. They take it as an invitation to go and look at it themselves. They rest their head on his shoulder from behind, peering at the object. It was a metal trinket.
“Do you know what it’s for?”
He shakes his head, brows furrowed.
