I ran my hands along the trees. I took in the feeling of the rough bark softly scraping at my skin as I passed. Every breath I took felt awakening instead of suffocating. Being away from everyone else like this was something I needed a long time ago. It makes me think of how things could have been if I had told everyone about what was happening before. Just then I see the bright light of a flashlight. I shield my eyes with my hand. I couldn’t make out the person behind the light, but of course it was someone from the group...right?

“Jamie!? Jamie, it’s me. Your father. I finally found you! Where's your sister?” the light in my eyes just became the last of my worries. The fear rose up and without thinking I turned and began running back to the camp. I could hear his heavy footsteps close behind. He was following me. If I went back to camp he would find everyone else, including Jane. I looked around and decided to turn right and lead him away. He may get me, but everyone else will be safe. My legs were aching, my breath was caught in my throat, my head was all over the place. I couldn’t run much longer. What was I going to do? He was closing in and quickly. Nothing comes to mind and I begin to slow down. I can’t keep this up for much longer.
