With only a couple of days left till the wedding, Vanessa had been feeling quite nervous and the waves of morning sickness was brutal to a certain extent, where everyone had begun to wonder why she had started vomiting every morning and sometimes after eating.
Lauren had an idea and that came from the time when she had seen Vanessa coming into the house with a pregnancy box not so well hidden inside her purse. A little of it peeked out and that little bit of it was enough for suspicions to arise inside of the blonde.
Now, the only thing that Lauren wanted to know was if the soon-to-be-bride was actually pregnant or just cautious. On another room of the Payne household, there was Judith and Tyler, who were acting like it was the first time they had taken time to look at each other in the midst of all the preparations going on in the house.
“The Anderson’s are going to come around today.” Tyler spoke to his wife, who just nodded her head as she folded clean laundry. “I know.”
Tyler nodded his own head in acknowledgement before he looked up at his wife, who was still busy with what she was doing not far away from him.
Tyler was sat on their temporary bed as he looked at his wife work. “I’m sorry about…”
“You don’t have to apologize to me, apologize to Juliet.” Judith cut him off while giving him an unforgiving glance. “I don’t need your sorry-s.” Tyler sighed before rubbing his forehead, “I didn’t know that she would see me.”
“You should have told her everything from the very beginning. This…” Judith paused as she used her hands to gesture between the two of them, “…this was sacred to her, and now it’s just full of lies.”
“Judith.” Tyler sighed again as he looked at his wife with a defeated expression. “What can I do to make things better again?” His tone could almost show how defeated and torn he was, while his face told it completely.
“You…” Judith had nothing to say to him, nothing that was useful anyway. She wanted to curse him out, slap him a few times and maybe even expose him to the rest of the family, but the love that she felt in her heart for him was just too strong to let anything negative take control over her. “Just talk to Juliet.” Tyler nodded his head before he got off from the bed hesitantly, “You know that I still love you, right?”
Judith didn’t meet his eyes as he stared at her and when he sighed after a minute, and walked towards the door to leave, only a small voice halted his steps. “I know.”
“Do you think it’s such a great idea?” Kevin asked as he snuggled closer into Vanessa’s back as he tightened his arms around her body. Vanessa sighed as she nodded her head, “It’s necessary.”
“Won’t Scarlet be mad? I don’t like her when she’s mad, she’s scary.” Kevin shuddered, remembering how Scarlet had threatened him on the day of his bachelor’s party. “She will be for a while but then everything will work out. Besides, she needs to suck it up.”
“Wow, that’s harsh.” Vanessa rolled her eyes before turning in Kevin’s arms. “Would you like it better if she starts having unnatural thoughts again?” Kevin looked into his fiancé’s eyes and saw the slight fear and the concern, before he sighed, “If you think everything’ll work out than it will.”
Even when Kevin had an idea, that Scarlet felt something for Lauren already, he was torn in between the two women. To choose Vanessa’s side or Scarlet’s happiness. For a man in love, he’d always side with the woman that means most to him. And to him, Vanessa was everything. Vanessa nodded her head, pushing her body closer to Kevin’s, wondering if what she was about to do was even worth it all.
Her head was finding it logical and a good enough reason to be done, but her heart was finding it hard to agree on.
Scarlet was sitting beside an asleep Lauren, as she watched her closely. Blake and Juliet were out of the house, getting the wedding invitations that hadn’t been handed out yet to anyone. Greg was with Granny Payne, playing ‘ladders and snakes’, while the twins – Ed and Ed – were in the back yard with Pudding, since he hadn’t been out of the house for quite some time.
The older woman brushed a strand of hair away from the blonde’s closed eye as she smiled when the younger woman groaned softly before snoring lightly. For Scarlet, watching Lauren came almost natural since the blonde’s peaceful face brought peace to her as well. A peace that she couldn’t explain or even find in anything else.
Lauren was beautiful. And it wasn’t even up for question.
Scarlet had known, since the day they had first met, the beauty that this blonde woman held in herself that no other could. No doubt, Katie was also beautiful. Is beautiful, but she wasn’t romantically beautiful to Scarlet anymore.
The type of beautiful that only your lover can be. Lauren was beginning to be that beautiful, and it was almost unfair, the way that Scarlet had found herself being sucked into that beauty and becoming something beautiful as well.
Not to herself, but definitely to Lauren, who couldn’t put into words, the love she had begun to feel for the woman. Lauren could see Scarlet’s beauty, that was sharp-edged and sometimes stubborn but it was beauty nonetheless.
As Lauren shifted in her sleep, onto her side where Scarlet sat, she sighed out in relief when the older woman laid down. Placing her arm around the blonde woman, Scarlet smiled as she watched Lauren breathing softly again.
“You should know that you’re special.” Scarlet spoke softly as she stroked Lauren’s arm while laying on her back, “I never lay in bed in the middle of the day.” Lauren sighed as if she was awake and Scarlet looked down at her face to inspect if she was in fact asleep or not. When Lauren’s breathing stayed soft, she continued, “You’re really special, Lauren.”
Scarlet breathed in deeply before she tried to put herself to sleep in the arms of the woman that was already deep in her dreams.
