“And remember, don’t let any woman touch you suggestively.” Vanessa warned as she tied Kevin’s tie, who nodded with a loving smile on his face as he took in Vanessa’s frowning face. “You look really cute when you’re jealous.”
“I’m not jealous.” Vanessa spoke as she brought her eyes to Kevin’s face, away from the tie she had just tied. “And don’t even give me a reason to be jealous, or else.”
Kevin chuckled before pecking her lips, “I won’t.” Vanessa smiled before embracing him, “Good.” She spoke into his chest as he stroked her hair.
“Oh, come on! He’s not going to war! Let him go!” Blake shouted as he danced on the heels of his feet in front of the open front door. “Yeah. He’s going to be a free man only once tonight. Let him be.” Andrew spoke as he heartily laughed.
Vanessa glared at her cousin and father separately, before giving Kevin a look of pure warning. “If you thought dad and I were scary, wait till you get a load of Van-hell.” Scarlet spoke as she leaned against the doorway of the living room with a bottle of cola in her hands.
“Thank you, Scarlet, for the heads up.” Vanessa looked at Scarlet with an unimpressed look while Scarlet smiled sweetly at her sister. “My pleasure, Van-hell.”
“Don’t listen to her, baby. I’m not scary.” Vanessa cooed in Kevin’s ear as he smiled lovingly at her.
“Just wait.” Scarlet spoke and got a nearby vase thrown at her, “Leave Scarlet.”
“Dad, she threw a vase at me!” Scarlet complained as she grasped the weapon of assault in her hands. Andrew gave her a look before bursting out into laughter.
“You two are grown-ups. Solve your fights like grown-ups. Don’t come to me about it.” Scarlet opened her mouth in shock as she glared at her father.
“Well, we better go now or Kevin’s gonna never want to leave.” Blake sighed before he grabbed Kevin’s arm and began to drag him out of the house.
“Be safe!” Vanessa yelled as Blake dragged Kevin to the car while Andrew walked out of the house, waving at his daughters.
“You too.” Andrew winked as he went over to the car and a minute later, it was driving out of the driveway and disappearing down the road.
“Did that wink suggest something?” Vanessa turned to look at Scarlet with an unamused look. “Van-hell, huh?”
Scarlet laughed before running into the living room while Vanessa closed the door. “You better be ready for an attack, Scarlet!”
Inside the living room, the Payne women – Laura, Wanda and Judith – sat playing card games while Scarlet and Lauren were watching news on the t.v with a considerable amount of space between them.
Although, they kept glancing at each other and subtly touched each other’s finger tips, they didn’t move to get rid of it.
Juliet was upstairs, reportedly putting the children to sleep.
Vanessa walked in the living room and sat down beside Laura, with a sigh. “Cheer up, tonight’s your bachelorette party too.” Lauren spoke as she brought her knees to her chest while smiling at the woman.
“We don’t even know what’s going to happen.” Scarlet mumbled sourly and got a slap on her arm from Lauren.
“Where is Juliet, by the way?” Judith asked as she looked at Scarlet, who shrugged in response. “She’s up getting the kids to sleep.” Vanessa spoke up before quieting down again.
“Yeah, like she’ll ever get them sleep.” Scarlet snorted and got a slap on the neck by Laura. “Don’t be mean. Let her try.”
Even when Laura knew that no one could control the little humans except for Scarlet, who had gotten the title of baby whisperer among the family, she was willing to let Juliet try.
“Why don’t you go check on them?” Judith spoke as she gave Scarlet a nervous look. “You know how your cousin gets when she gets annoyed. I’m afraid she’ll try to drug them to get them to sleep.”
Scarlet laughed while Laura looked at Judith with her mouth wide open. She didn’t say anything since Judith herself was doubtful of her own daughter.
Getting up from beside Lauren, Scarlet had just walked to the living room entrance when the doorbell rang. Looking back at the other ladies, Scarlet raised a questioning eyebrow at them, getting multiple shrugs in response from the women.
Shrugging herself, Scarlet moved to the front door and opened the door wide open, coming face-to-face with three unknown men, who were wearing simple t-shirts and jeans.
One of them smiled at Scarlet before brushing his long locks of blonde hair back on his head, “Hi, I’m Dustin.”
“And I’m Carl.” The second one spoke while waving slightly at the dark-haired woman.
“Ben.” The third one spoke in a bored tone.
“Um, do I know you?” Scarlet spoke as she gave the men a once over. They weren’t awfully attractive, but attractive enough to be models. Hell, maybe they were models.
“Juliet…. Invited us?” Dustin spoke in a questioning tone as he looked at his companions. Carl nodded his head frantically while Ben just grunted. “Okay.” Scarlet dragged out the word before side-stepping out of the way and letting the three men in.
“I’ll just go……. bring her down.” Scarlet spoke after she had guided the three men to the living room where the Payne women and Lauren, looked extremely confused.
Without any explanation to the women, Scarlet almost ran up the stairs and burst into the guest room. “Juliet.” Her voice wasn’t loud but it was loud enough to wake a person, and that person just happened to be Greg.
“You ding dong.” Juliet hissed as Gregory began to whine and then jump into Juliet’s lap, who was sitting on his mattress with a story book in her hands.
Scarlet noticed the awakening of Greg and just smiled apologetically at her cousin, “Sorry. Let me help.”
She made her way over to her cousins and sat down beside Juliet before picking Greg up and placing him in her own lap. Looking around the room, she saw that the twins had fallen asleep while holding their hands – an old habit that didn’t seem to go – and Greg was the only one that wasn’t asleep.
“You have three handsome men downstairs, waiting for you.” Scarlet informed the red-haired woman in a whisper before stroking Greg’s hair, silently lulling him back to sleep.
At first, Juliet looked confused but then her confusion was replaced by panic and realization. “What?” She hissed in a whisper as she stood up almost immediately. Looking at the wall clock hanging just above the bathroom door, she cursed underneath her breath before sprinting out of the room, leaving Scarlet confused.
By now, Greg was fast asleep in Scarlet’s arms, clutching lightly on to her shirt. She cooed at her adorable sleeping cousin before placing him back on the make-shift bed gently as to not to wake him up again before getting up from her sitting position.
Walking over to the light switch, she switched it off, letting the room engulf in darkness before walking out of the room, closing the door behind her with a soft click.
Scenarios were swirling in her head as to who those three men were as she began to descend downstairs. They could be anyone. Maybe Juliet’s co-workers or maybe her old college mates. What confused Scarlet the most was the suspiciously identical attire of theirs which just brought many more questions into her head.
Scarlet’s questions were to be answered eventually. Because the moment, she walked into the living room, she found the three men dancing up on Vanessa while she sat on the recliner completely enjoying the show they were putting.
The most mentally scarring part of the whole scene was the fact that they were now shirtless and their jeans were replaced with jean shorts.
Scarlet's reaction to all of this: Jaw on the floor.
