In a small town—Moon was buying groceries that his mother Yui asked for, he went to many different shops that sold everything he needed, bread, fruits, vegetables, anything he could get his hands on. Buying groceries was a struggle for him, not many stores were opened, and some just didn't want to sell anything to him.
"Hey kid!?"
"Huh?" Said Moon, it was a man that he knew, Mister Yamato. A shopkeeper that sells medicine. "Hello there Mister Yamato."
"Here," said Mister Yamato. "These are medicines and tea for your mother."
Mister Yamato lives in a small medical shop here in this town. The house is pretty big but he does live by himself. Long ago he used to be a famous medical officer in China before coming here, Mister Yamato told Moon that the first time they met.
"Be careful with those when you are going back up the mountains," said Mister Yamato.
"What?" Said Moon, you think someone is going to rob me because I'm a kid, I happened to be a Martial Artist in training, I may be small but I do pack a punch you know.
Moon was proud about that statement with his smug face. Mister Yamato looked at him thinking if the boy was confident or just ignorant. Whatever it was he thought Moon wasn't ready for the real world.
"Moon—You're like seven years old, you have a long way to go before becoming a full-fledged Martial Artist, it's not that easy. A skinny little kid like you wouldn't last in the real world, Now go on home before your mother gets worried again. Said Mister Yamato.
"Right!" Said Moon, "Bye Mister Yamato!"
Moon was beginning to leave the city, but then stumbled across an old lady.
"Hello Moon dear, leaving the town so soon? She said."
"Yes ma'am, Yui's gonna get worried again."
"Well then here." She said, I made these yesterday just for you and your mother. '' They're both brand new—look, I even made some for the cats."
Grandma started to laugh, and Moon found it was awkward so just laughed along. This old lady runs a clothing shop, she gives Him and Yui free clothes because she adores them. His mother Yui knew this lady since she was a little girl. she's is like a mother figure to her, which is why Moon addresses her as grandma.
"Thanks grandma, but I really should head back before Yui gets worried again, You know her."
Moon says his goodbyes to his grandmother and the people in the town as he walks out of the town and up the mountains into the forest. Moon finally arrived at his home. The house was pretty small but it was big enough for them to live there. As he went indoors he saw his mother Yui sitting in the living room on the floor, her legs were folded and eyes were closed.
"Yui, what are you doing?" Said Moon.
Yui opened her eyes for a moment then got up off the floor, walked towards him with a straight face, and slapped him.
"You're late again" She said, "this is the second time Moon. If you were caught by rogues what would you do?"
"I—I would fight back..." Said Moon.
"You hesitated with that question just now" She said, ''Are you sure, or are you not?"
Moon was silent for a moment. Realizing the question Yui was asking was serious to her, he spoke again and this time he spoke confidently.
"I'm positive!" Said Moon.
She took the groceries out of his hand and walked towards the kitchen, she then looked in the bags making sure he had everything she asked for so she could prepare for supper. While that was happening Moon went out to the backyard to check on the plants he had made. He watered each of the plants, and some grew bigger than the others that the pot couldn't hold them, so removed some to a bigger pot and added more dirt. After that Moon got on his knees and prayed over them. As soon as he was finished he came back to the house to see if he could help Yui with cooking.
"Hey Yui," said Moon, "so what are you making for supper tonight?"
When Moon asked her that question he noticed she wasn't paying attention to him, she was lost in thought. Moon stared at her for a moment, he tapped her to see if she was okay.
"Yui, are you okay?" Said Moon.
"Moon." Yui said suddenly, ''Is there anything else you like to do besides martial arts?"
"Nope!" Said Moon as he replied quickly and proudly with a big smile on his face. Yui sighed. Then called him to the couch to talk to him.
"Moon." She said, I know you're being picked on by the other kids and the Neighbors because of your skin being different from others, so you don't have to hide it from me.
"Yui don't worry too much about it. I'll Make friends eventually, I already have Grandma and Mister Yamato as friends."
Moon didn't feel bothered by the remarks the other kids much, but His mother Yui was still concerned about him.
"I mean friends around your age Moon, Don't you feel anything about it?" She said.
"Well—I don't really pay much attention to what others say, but I would be lying if I said it doesn't make me frustrated." He admitted.
"As your mother, this concerns me." Said Yui, if you ever feel this way you can always talk to me. Look, we are all different, even if we reach for different things in life, we still reach the same way, I just want you to have some friends around. I'm sure not all people are like that here."
"It seems like you know a lot around here, yui," Said Moon.
"Well, we have been living here for a year and a half now." said Yui, and there are some actual nice neighbors around here. Two days ago I met this one young man that recently moved around here that was very kind and had such a way with words, it almost made me flattered.
"Uh huh..." This guy can't be all that, why would a guy like that be interested in Yui, isn't she like 35, that's kind of old if you ask me? Moon Thought.
Yui looked at his expression, and she knew what he was thinking.
"Hey brat, you were thinking of something rude wasn't you?" She said with a creepy smile.
"No..." said Moon.
I see... Said Yui, I guess I didn't raise you well since you now know how to lie!
Yui chased Moon around the house trying to smack him in the head. After that, Moon went out again. He was hunting for some herbs in the forest mountains before it got dark. It's been a while since he hunted. This was his first time hunting in the forest mountains. Hunting was moons favorite hobbies, sometimes he did it for fun, and sometimes he did it before he was bored. He wanted to see if there were any herbs around the mountains. Moon searching the forest for herbs he found a few rocks and some plants. It's a start, but far from over he thought. As time passed he couldn't find a single herb for a while, he searched the whole part of the forest but couldn't find anything. He then stopped and noticed they're was a path, two of them. One led straight towards a dark path with weird trees and one towards to a weird looking wall
"Wait a minute..." said Moon.
He walked towards the weird wall, and pressed on it, and fell. There was nothing there but a tunnel. From far away it looks like a wall, but now that Moon looks close up, it is just a wall with tree branches just blocking a tunnel. He walked in the dark tunnel for quite a while, seeing if there was an end but no, the tunnel path was longer than he thought it was as it was getting darker and darker. He stopped and picked his lamp from the basket and turned it on so he could see better. There were bugs, and worms. The crunch in Moon's shoes left him paranoid and not very happy either.
"Sorry, little bugs," said Moon.
Moon didn't like the feeling of stepping on the bugs, but there were many of them. It was the only walk he could take, but then there was a light. A very small light up ahead. Moon stopped for a moment and took a deep breath. He then continued to walk, approaching the light, and what he saw blew his mind. He found magical cores, many magical cores. The core colors looked so beautiful Moon pinged himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming.
"Nope, Definitely not dreaming"
It was amazing, everything was shiny, everything valuable was there, magical cores, Healing herbs, colorful clans, stones, ores and more. What is going on? Moon thought to himself.
I can not wait to show Yui all of this. With this we won't have to worry about money again, Moon Thought.
"Still though,'' he said, '' let not make this about me now, this could also help the People in town as well"
Moon quickly went back out of the tunnel to go back home and tell Yui about what he found, he knew that he was going to need some help with this one this time.
He ran so fast that he scared a few neighbors coming by.
"What in the world was that?" Said a Neighbors
"Was that the Black kid that lives a few hills down that run by?" Said another Neighbor.
Moon finally arrives home as he walks indoors from the back huffing and puffing.
Yui had a confused look on her face when she saw him sweating.
"What did you do now?" She said,
Yui you won't believe what I found in the Mountains" Said Moon as he huffed and puffed.
Seems like he found something interesting she thought when she saw his expression, Yui knows her son very well. But then she sighed.
"You know it wouldn't hurt so much to call me Mom once in a while," She said.
Moon told her everything about the tunnel in the mountains. She was surprised, and she thought it would have been a better idea to get a trustworthy friend to help them, but then Yui stared at Moon, and she had an idea. A idea that would help him. he
""Hey Moon," said Yui.
"Yes?" He responded.
"If your really into being a martial art, the visit the woman name kim ji woo living the lowest peak of the hidden in the mountains" she said, It's pretty far down but I'm sure something like that won't concern you would it?"
What about the tunnel? said Moon.
"Don't worry about that" she said, "I'll call a friend tomorrow" she said. Let's discuss this tomorrow, in the meantime help me finish supper" She said.
Life isn't easy, but we have to give it our all, that's just the way of life, Moon though.
That night Dinner was ready, it was homemade beef ramen stir fry. They both closed their eyes and held their hands praying before they could eat. Now that prayer was served they began to Dig in. After supper, it was time to sleep. Moon prays for the final time before getting in the bed, he prays every night so that each day will be a good day. He tried to go to sleep, he lay in his bed trying to go to sleep, but he was thinking about his mother.
Yui must be lonely, ever since Her husband left she has been in the house a lot lately. I will never see that man as my father, Moon Thought to himself. She even forgets to eat her morning breakfast. I should call grandma to come by and spend some with us in her spare time, maybe that will cheer her up. I just want her to be happy.
