20XX August 2nd
The day that brought us closer towards a world of fantasy and the day that the World almost “ended”.
Three meteors had been sighted in the Earth’s atmosphere heading towards what seemed to be the coast of North America, Central Europe and Asia. They weren’t the type of meteors that would’ve just disintegrated when entering the atmosphere either, hence why they were under the breaking news headline. These meteors were massive, you could see them falling from the tall peaks of mountains, and plus these meteors were only seen last second by the National Space Stations so this was not anticipated at all.
All the news channels were going crazy and of course people were freaking out, including authorities and government officials worldwide. Military Bases were firing missiles at the meteors trying to minimise them as well as attempting to direct them into the nearby oceans.
This news channel was covering one of the meteors about to crash right off the coast of Long Island.
“These Meteors are heading at a high velocity! At this rate it can take off parts of Europe and Australia!” said one of the two reporters.
“We’ve got the space stations relaying their message to us, authorities are on the ground trying to evacuate all citizens to safety, putting their lives on the line whilst also trying to calm everyone down” the other reporter said rapidly.
These reporters had been working at this news channel for a long time now, five years to be exact and they have covered some pretty terrifying cases. However this is the first time I’ve seen them this scared, I could tell because of how rapidly the second reporter was speaking.
“We got a message!” one of the background crew yelled.
“What's it say?” the reporter said, slowly losing his patience.
“Calculating it’s velocity and it’s distance between the ground and the meteor itself, we can unfortunately say that the meteor will crash in about…… two minutes”
The news crew were in complete silence when he said that.
“Welp… It was nice knowing you guys” the cameraman said. You could hear the acceptance of defeat in his voice. After him everyone else started to say their last goodbyes to each other also.
It felt like a long, yet stressful and tense final minutes for the news crew.
The two minutes had finally passed and now the meteor finally came into contact with the ocean, causing a bright, dazzling light to disperse from it, blinding everyone in New York’s vicinity. People thought that this was what it was like when you finally died, a bright blinding light that allowed you to reflect on what life was worth. But it wasn’t like that, no one died. Despite three massive meteors that could’ve caused another big bang, no one died. The flash was only temporary.
The news crew survived without a scratch nor scar.
“We’re…… alive” said the cameraman.
Silence filled the studio with confusion but it only took them a second to realize that the crisis was averted, mysteriously.
“Woooo! We lived baby!”
They all started to celebrate as if it was their accomplishment when in reality, they didn’t accomplish anything at all. Many people thought that the meteors were all just some wild fever dream that never happened or that the government pulled out their strongest card in the deck with a secret weapon that took out the meteors at the last second.
However to me it was all bullshit… Those meteors struck, I know for sure, what it did to the world is still a mystery to all… but I’ll find it… This isn’t something you could just sweep under the rug just like that.
Even to this day the news crew still pretend like nothing happened, living their lives like normal from there on out. However, there is something very abnormal about this certain event that just bothers me too much for me to ignore.
I know that I will find my answer if I am just persistent enough. Though, little do I know what I am getting myself into.
