Sebastian POV
“How can I help you today?” Alpha Harris repeated. We were sitting at his desk, in an office that wasn’t so bad after all. I hesitated a bit, his smile disturbing me greatly. Who the hell is that guy? He doesn’t look like he has aggressive intentions, yet I feel like I should watch my back and choose my words carefully. “I would like to offer you an alliance,” I declared waiting for a reaction from him before I continued. After a minute, I figured he wouldn’t react and started again, determined to not let that creep turn me from my goal. “I would like to start an alliance. You probably already heard if not seen that war for territory is about to start between the strongest pack. I think, seeing the size of your territory compared to the number of wolves you have, you will be one of the first packs attacked. An alliance with my pack would provide you protection. I am not saying that you and your soldiers are not able to protect the pack but if I’m not wrong, I think you would prefer not to fight.”
“ Well that was neet, if this guy finds something insulting in that, then I don’t think having an alliance with him is clever. A mad wolf is way too unpredictable for it to be safe.” my wolf opined. “Thanks, happy to know we are on the same page.” I hold back a smile. That good old Titan. “Hey! I’m not old!”
“Shut up!” I chided “I need to concentrate” By the time I looked back at alpha Harris, he was giving me a knowing look, smirk and a lifted eyebrow included. God, I hate that guy.
“I admit I would rather not start fighting for my territory. In fact, I would rather not fight at all, ever. But I doubt that an alpha like you would put an interest in my situation. You are the head of one of the most powerful packs if not the most. How would an alliance with us be any good for you?” Harris asked. That’s exactly what I wanted him to ask. If he continues that way, my job is going to be so much easier. “Well, you see… I’m quite embarrassed to say but our establishment for our littles ones aren’t at their best. If you would accept taking our kids to your
school for the year. We could then work on rebuilding our school without having to worry about the kids.” I faked my embarrassed tone perfectly. I guess those acting extracurricular were useful after all. Just to be sure he would believe my little act, I rubbed my neck, giving him an uncertain smile. “I see how it is,” the alpha laughed with a hint of disdain that made me want to kill him right there. Lucky for him, he continued. “I think this is a good start for the alliance. Let’s start the contract.” Finally! I really need to calm down. It’s obvious that I will have to keep the role of the laughing stock for an hour or two if I want that contract signed by both of us. I can do it, I can endure his behaviour a little longer, just not without a coffee. “What about we take a break to get something to drink. I feel like this could take a long time,” I suggested, hoping he would deign to listen to my advice. After all, maybe that king Harris does not feel like having a cup of coffee. To my relief, he simply agreed. “That’s a great idea! What about some coffee?”
“You just read my mind, alpha Harris.”
“This happy tone didn’t sound fake at all! Congrats!” Oops
“I don’t need your sarcasm.”
. . .
“Wait! Before we sign this, I was hoping that I could ask you one last favour.”
Damn, this wolf never shut up, does he? I guess after living a whole life with it he got used to his annoying voice.
“Common! One last smile! At three, two, one… Cheese!”
I pulled my business smile on again and agreed. “Of course! What can we do to help your pack?”
“Would you please accept teaching our high schoolers?” Oh no. That asshole. He didn’t just say that, right?
“I confirm, he just asked you to teach highschoolers”
“I’m sorry alpha Harris but I’m afraid I don’t have enough knowledge. Besides, I still have my pack to run” I stammered.
“Oh, don’t worry about that! It would only be four classes a week. We can schedule them all in a day to work on your pack the other days and I don’t think the gym needs too much knowledge. You see, we desperately need a P-E teacher for the finishing students and we are lacking time.”
“Yeah, but can’t you ask the other teachers?”
“They all refused, even with a higher salary.”
“I can ask someone else from my pack to teach them. As long as the job is well paid…”
“No, I think you should do it. After all, you are really patient and I think you would be a great influence on them. Of course, you will get paid. What salary do you want?”
“Will you continue looking for a teacher?”
“Yes!”
“Fine, you pick a salary, I don’t care. I like kids, it can’t be that bad”
“They’re only two years younger than you, you know?”
“Hush, I was beginning to convince myself that it wasn’t so bad.”
“You are going to suffer, good luck!”
“You must really need me to sign that contract to accept teaching!” Harris scoffed.
“Or maybe I’m just too tired to think straight and I will regret this as soon as I had a good night of sleep.”
We both laughed, me half-heartedly, him way too loudly. “Okay, I get it, alpha Carter, let’s sign this alliance.”
. . .
As I was getting in the car, I heard alpha Harris wishing me well and welcoming me and my pack.
“I swear if one of you make a noise, would it be talking or even breathing, I will kill them,” I grumbled, my headache turning into a migraine. At least we’ve got that alliance, but at what cost? I should’ve just killed them all.
