Liam
"Are you sure, Liam?" My mother called out in a tender voice, as I looked up at her. "You know, you can take your time and join school after the summer holidays. I am sure they would understand."
"No, it's okay." I smiled as I swallowed the rice. "I had already taken a lot of time. I am okay with going to school."
"Mom, don't stress too much." Oliver said as she patted Mom's shoulder. "Besides, I can see your wrinkles clearly."
"You brat-"
Both of them bickered with each other as I watched them. I guess this is how we used to spend our days in the mornings.
Doctor Rhein suggested that I stay in the hospital until I recover from the shock and remember my basic memories, i.e., remember my family. Luckily, my old self was kind enough to record daily events in his life and note them down in pocket notebooks. Photos, notes, to-do lists. Everything was noted down. Except some stuff.
For the first few weeks, I went through my stuff, trying to recognized them. At first, I was clueless. But Oliver was by my side, helping me slowly proceed in my mission. Due to her efforts, after a month, I recovered my memories about my family.
Remembering everything about my family struck me in a hard away. Our small lovely family, forming after numerous hurdles. Heart-breaks, tears, agony. But those sad heart-breaking memories don't matter anymore.
"Ah, Liam!" Oliver pouted as she pointed at Mom. "Mom is making fun of my nose!"
"What? It's true. Your nose is not that good." Mom pointed it out, teasing Oliver.
"Liam, say something."
"I think" I spoke as I touched her nose with my finger. "My cute amazing sister has an amazing nose."
"Thank you, Liam." She cutely said as she winked her left eye, a habit of hers.
"Now, hurry up." Mom said as she collected our empty dishes. "Yuna and Cecilia are waiting for you outside."
"Ah, not that girly dude again." Oliver grumpily spoke, her mood quickly changing.
"Oliver, Yuna just has a girl name." I said as I wore my backpack. "Give him some respect."
"I am still not over that incident." Oliver's cheeks burned red as she covered her face. "I'll kill him one day."
"Are you still thinking about that day when Yuna accidently tripped on you and pushed you into the stream?" I spoke, a chuckle escaping from my lips.
"Liam!" Oliver exclaimed, banging her hand on the table. "Don't mention about it ever again."
"Okay, okay." I rose my hand in surrender. "I'll be waiting for you outside, come soon." I wore my shoes as I went out of the door.
"I got it!" I heard Oliver's reply.
Oliver
I sighed as I looked at Liam exiting the room. "Even though he isn't realising it, he still remembers the past. Before that happened."
The dish fell from Mother's hand and dropped on the table, snapping my neck at her.
"Don't mention about that, Oliver." She spoke in a mono-tone voice, her eyes on the plate. Luckily the plate hadn't broken from the impact.
"Yes, Mother." I spoke as I got my backpack and wore my shoes.
"Make sure that he doesn't face any problems at school." My eyes met with my mother's as I flashed her a smile.
"Don't worry. I am there for Brother."
Liam
I left my house, with Yuna and Cecilia waiting for me and Oliver in front of our house.
"You guys took a lot of time in eating." Cecilia spoke in an annoyed voice, her hands kept at her waist. "Can't you guys hurry up?"
"I bet it was Oliver who was eating like a slow pig." Yuna commented.
"Says the one who has a girly name." Oliver spoke from behind as she stood beside me. "If you are a true man, have the guts to insult me in front of my face."
"I surely will, slow pig."
"You-"
"Now, that's enough fighting of both of you." I cut Oliver off as she glared at Yuna. "Why don't you guys settle things for once?"
"Never!" Both of them spoke in union before glaring at each other again.
"Guys!" Cecilia spoke as she grabbed me by my shoulder. "Instead of killing each other with glares, how about you both check your grades of-" Cutting Cecilia mid-sentence, Yuna and Oliver ran off, battling as they ran in the direction of school.
"Those two are the worse." Cecilia spoke as I broke into laughter.
"They both will never change."
"Yeah."
Both of us started to walk, our eyes lying on the horizon of our view. The early morning sun shined over us, the leaves glowing with joy as we walked by them.
"A lot of time has passed, hasn't it?" Cecilia looked over at me as I smiled.
"Yeah, a lot of time had passed."
After recognising memories related to my family, the next target was to remember my close friends. According to Oliver, I had two best friends - Yuna and Cecilia. The first thought that came to my mind was - Was I a lady's man?
Apparently, it turned out that Yuna was actually a guy's name. Shocking, right. When I was ready to recognised them again, Oliver called them to my room. As soon as I was given the news that Yuna is a guy, I apologised with my head down. To my surprise, they both busted into laughter as they tackled me in their group hug.
Somehow, I ended up giving both of them a karate chop on their heads one by one. Both of them groaned in pain, backing off while I stared my hands in shock. I opened my mouth, again to apologise. But they cut me off, saying that I used to avoid their group hugs and would often hit their heads.
And that's how I reconnected with them again. My pocket notes gave me some more insights on them, helping me in understanding them even more.
"Here we are." Cecilia's voice brought me back from my thoughts as I looked up at the school building. The building was of four floors, including the ground floor. A long gravel path connected the entrance of the building as students walked in groups.
"Welcome to Peony Mir High School. So, what do you think?"
"It's okay."
"You'll love it even more." She held my hand as she pulled me into the building. We reached a hall with a group of students crowding in front of the noticeboard.
"Is something happening over there?" I pointed to the crowd as Cecilia sighed in disbelief.
"It's the time for the results of monthly test." She said as we went to the murmuring crowd. "Our school takes an intelligence exam every year to select a bunch of smart students who then have to attend special after school classes, helping them in increasing their knowledge. Every month they take a quiz to evaluate each student's progress. Both Oliver and Yuna have been selected for the special classes, so they often butt heads for marks."
"So, it's a battle between two geniuses?" I said as we saw Oliver and Yuna, glaring at each other.
"It's more like a battle between rivals." Cecilia clapped her hands as other students dispersed from the notice board. "Now, tell me. Who got the higher score?"
"I got it." Oliver spoke as she pulled her answer sheet in front. "See? Your sister isn't dumb, Liam." I patted Oliver's head as she smiled at my warmth.
"What's the difference?" Cecilia asked Yuna as he handed her his answer sheet.
"Only a half mark."
"Poor Yuna." Oliver spoke in a sing-song tone as Yuna glared at her.
"I'll crush you next time, slow pig."
"We'll see, Girly Boy."
"This is my class?" I asked Yuna as he nodded. Currently, we both were in our classroom.
"This time, me and you got grouped in one class, while Cecilia is in another section."
"Where is Oliver's class?" I asked as I took a seat near the window.
"Since this is her first year in high school, she is in the second floor." Yuna took the seat beside me, hanging his bag on the side. "You can meet her during break time if you want to."
"Nah, she would be busy with her friends." I took my books out along with my supplies. "Besides, we always meet at home."
I hung my bag aside as I gazed out of the window. Birds flew in the bright sky, soaring with courage. Trees moved in rhythm as strong wind flew by. The sound of pages of book fluttering reached my ears, as if calling out to me as I turned behind.
Green eyes found the brown ones as those eyes hid behind the book. Who was it?
The door of the classroom slides open as the teacher entered the classroom. Everyone stood up, wishing the teacher good morning, with teacher instructing them to sit down.
"Now class, as you might have heard about it in your second year." The teacher spoke up as everyone kept their attention on her. "Liam Abiko had woken up from coma, but suffered with shock, resulting him to not be able to remember anyone."
Everyone's eyes moved to me, whispers slowly filling the room. This is so awkward. I looked at Yuna, giving me a reassuring look. The teacher banged the table, getting everyone to look at her again.
"Now, he has made a good amount of recovery, but that doesn't mean that you can bomb him with various questions. Now, Liam can you please stand up?"
My legs froze. My hands started to shake as my eyes stuck on the books on my table. Why am I not able to move? Why is my body feeling as if it will get crushed by the various stares, I am receiving from everyone? I feel suffocating.
"Liam Abiko?" The teacher called out again as I slowly stood up. Ignoring the stares suffocating my voice, I spoke up.
"I am Liam Abiko. I hope that I will get along with everyone and have a good academic year."
"That's nice, sit down."
I slowly sat down, my legs losing their strength as I slumped on the chair. That wasn't an easy feat. I rubbed my hands together, feeling the coldness between them as I tried to warm them up. I blow between my palms, feeling the heat before returning to its cold state.
The faces of my classmates looked familiar, but I can't recognise them. It's going to be a long day trying to figure out who they were and how was my relation with them. The looks on their faces, it's easy to decipher. Pity, annoyed, rude, offended- Wait offended?
Seriously, offended?!
I didn't go into a coma for six months and then wake up, completely clueless, just to see that offended face of yours. No thank you.
"Ignore them." Yuna quietly whispered, his eyes on a novel he was reading. "Don't think much about their faces. The only thing they feed on is attention."
"Noted."
"Now, as all of you know, since this is going to be your last year in high school." The teacher spoke. "I want you all to focus on your studies as well as get involved into things that you like. Club activity forms are with the Class President. Anyone interested can approach her. That will be all."
The teacher gathered her books as she exited the room. I turned to Yuna, who was keeping his novel in his bag.
"So Yuna, which club are you going to choose?"
"I am already attending the special after school classes, so it would be difficult to manage."
"Oh, I was thinking of taking Poetry Club."
"You want to try poetry?" Yuna spoke with wide eyes.
"Oliver said that she wanted to poetry, so I guess I'll join her." I kept my books inside, taking out biology textbook. "She said that it would be fun."
"I bet she is trying to write a poem on how she is slow at eating." Yuna was already ready for the class, his books on the table.
I chuckled as I shook my head. "Maybe, maybe not."
"Liam." Oliver walked to our table, along with her plate. "So, brother. How was your first class?" She said as she placed her spoon in front of me.
"He's not a toddler anymore." Yuna commented as Oliver ignored him, looking at me for an answer.
"It was good. The teacher was nice."
Oliver removed her spoon in front of me and began eating. "I am happy that you had a good first day of school."
"What about you? How's high school?" I asked, as a responsible brother. "Made any friends?"
"It was tiring." Oliver said, taking a piece of carrot in her mouth. "Our class teacher already gave us a lot of homework. We have to write long essays about our holidays. There weren't any transferred students, but I meet my former old friends."
"You really like to talk a lot while talking, don't you?" Yuna said as he drank the last bit of the soup. "Why don't you focus on eating your lunch on time?"
"Why you-" Oliver was cut off as the bell rang. "Ah, I still have to eat more."
"Idiot."
"Help me, Yuna!" She begged him as Yuna sighed in annoyance.
"Liam, you go. I'll come soon." Yuna took Oliver's plate as he began eating it.
I took my empty plate and placed it among others before heading towards the classroom. Even though Oliver and Yuna bicker a lot, even it comes to helping each other, somehow, they go along for a while. Only for a while before they continue their bickering. Even as we were kids, Oliver and Yuna never got along. I guess some things never change.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice a boy coming with his friend and bumped into him.
"Ah, I am sorry. I should have noticed." I apologised as I started to head back to class.
"Isn't he that boy who had lost his memories?"
"Yeah, that's the one. I heard someone had pushed him in his house due to some revenge I guess."
My legs froze as the boys walked away from me.
Someone had pushed me?!
