I found you
Since the engagement party, Wale had not seen Kind for weeks despite efforts to reach him via cellphone or email and neither was he coming to the office or anywhere else. It felt like he had vanished. Wale had been sitting in his office staring outside the window thinking to himself he didn't need to come to work anyway, after all, he only came here to spend time with Kind.
According to human resource department, Kind had taken a leave of absence without notice, at least that is what they said. Luckily, he had hired a private investigator to find out where he had ran off to. Wale felt completely lost without Kind and knowing where he was would have given him comfort however, he partly understood why Kind would suddenly disappear like that, especially after his lavish engagement to Cherry.
Coming to work today had been pointless. He only hoped that Kind didn't hate him because there was nothing he could do , he loved Cherry, he wanted to marry her too.
"You're really cold blooded Wale, you shouldn't have told him to come that day," He mumbled to himself. "But I still won't let you go K. No matter how many times you run away."
Wale drove all the way home deep in thought, remembering his engagement day. He recalled not seeing Kind for a long time after he had congratulated them. He had wanted to go look for him but Swalha introduced him to some of her friends and within minutes, they were all engaged in deep conversations he could hardly remember their faces.
When they got to their allocated room, Cherry offered to look for Kind before they retired. She must have really searched for long since she came back after a few hours, though she had added meeting more people who were having a bonfire by the beach. Kind couldn't have just left like that without saying a word.
A car parking beside him brought him back from his thoughts. He hadn't realized he had sat inside the car till dark. Cherry must be home already. Taking the lift, he headed towards the apartment he shared with her. She was enthusiastic upon his entrance. Her spirits had completely heightened after their engagement.
"Welcome home my love. " They kissed."Today I got home before you so I made dinner instead." Cherry could clearly observe Wale was in a bad mood. His melancholy behavior had been the trend lately since Kind had left.
"Still no news from the private investigator?" She asked concerned to which Wale slowly shook his head. "His number is going though so I guess he is still not picking my calls either," Cherry said. Pushing Wale gently to the nearest seat, she asked, "are you sure you didn't do anything drastic to Kind before? He is also avoiding Swalha and I'm beginning to get concerned even though you're insisting we don't involve the police. He could be in danger." Leaning forward to support his head on Cherry's tummy, Wale made no attempt to reply.
Since that time Cherry had caught Kind with his lover, she had decided not to disclose her discovery to Wale. She wasn't sure how he would react but Wale's reactions lately had made her begin to have suspicions that there was more to his actions than normal. She had always known Wale cared for Kind deeply but this was a bit too much. Perhaps everyone had been right in collage when they said Wale and Kind had been a couple, except in this scenario, Wale was the one in love with Kind. All her speculations lead her to a lot of conclusions and this could have been the only one that made perfect sense.
Cherry remembered the first time they had gone on a double date with Kind and Swalha, Wale's attention was all focused on Kind. He always spoke fondly of his best friend, almost like he described Kind to be someone he loved deeply. He applied the same jobs Kind did, liked everything Kind liked, bought him presents out of the blue whenever Wale would buy her gifts. It would drive him crazy as it did now whenever Kind gave them distance as a couple, he'd wine about if for days until she'd have to invite him for their dates. Come to think of it, Kind had been in multiple relationships and Wale always got into a fight with Kind demanding to meet whoever he was dating; which made sense now why Kind hid his relationships. However, did Wale know that Kind was gay?
Looking down at him, it pained her to accept that she could be right. She knew Wale cared for her but how could she compete with Kind? Wale's affections towards his best friend were no longer those among brothers, but one in love with another. Kind was her competition and she couldn't hate him since he seemed unaware of Wale's feelings. Kind had been her biggest fan, always supporting her, bringing them back together with Wale whenever a fight broke out, goodness! Kind was the one who made Wale finally propose after ten years. He was probably the one who will help her organize the wedding since Wale is always complaisant . Kind was always there for her.
"Your tummy is rumbling Cherry." Wale interrupted her train of thoughts. Looking up at her he added, "I'm hungry too." Just then, his phone rang to which he abruptly stood up. Kissing her cheek, he whispered, "It's the private investigator." He ran to the bedroom to take the call, leaving her scared of what news they were about to receive.
Wale came back after a few minutes exclaiming, "We finally found him!" She quickly ran to embrace him to hide her disappointed look. Wale must not know her thoughts. "I'm glad," she told him. Wale responded by hugging her tightly. They stayed like that for a while before she probed further.
"Where is he?"
Ending the hug abruptly, Wale excitedly replied, "About that, we will find out tomorrow since I asked the private investigator to take me there. Kind must know I'm better at hide and seek than him." Grabbing her cheeks with both his hands, he gently squeezed then then gave her a kiss. "I love you so much." He kissed her again then left saying he wanted take a shower before dinner.
Cherry gave hima few minutes until she heard the shower on and Wale humming before quickly grabbing her phone to make a call. She had to let Kind know immediately or else it will be too late.
"Kind, he found you!"
