Indeed, nothing seemed out of the ordinary as they got into Yummy Yum restaurant. As expected in any service industry, the staff were friendly and welcoming. At first glance, one would assume the restaurant was praiseworthy for how homey it felt, only to find out it's name fitted their top notch dining experience.
"If there is anything good about this day, it should be the amazing food," said Cherry seeming satisfied. "Breakfast at Yummy Yum every weekend don't you think so guys?"
"I couldn't agree more." Wale replied, rubbing his belly while leaning back on the chair. "I did eat like a horse today and this is not a good habit, but I'm not regretful." Turning to Kind who was still on his last bites, he teased, "You always took your time at the table. How is it that you get to work before me?"
"I'm not like you shoving everything inside my mouth. I want to savor every juicy part of my breakfast. Plus, Cherry never rushes me when dining."
"Cherry this Cherry that... Since when did you two grow this close?" Wale teased while poking Kind's shoulder gently but as usual, his friend ignored him and went about munching on.
A gentle smile formed across Wale's lips as he wondered how he would react if Kind were to confess his feelings to him. He didn't want to reject him since that would mean Kind would start avoiding him again. As it turns out, they had only spent time outside of work twice this month.
"How long do you plan on avoiding me?" Wale murmured his thoughts aloud, something that shocked his girlfriend as a gasp escaped her however, to clear up the air before a misunderstanding was formed, Wale faced his girlfriend. "Cherry you must know that Kind has been avoiding me for a while now. We've only met twice this month and he claims to be preoccupied even during breaks at work." Turning back to look at a rather displeased Kind, Wale added, "I miss my best friend."
"I charge quite high for appearances. You can't afford me Wale." Lookin at Cherry, Kind added teasingly."I think your girlfriend would agree."
Exasperated, Wale stood up. "You two and your coded language, I'll get the bill this time."
"What do you think you are doing?" Cherry whispered as soon as Wale was far enough to not eavesdrop on their conversation. "I asked you to keep your distance not go completely off the grid. He is getting suspicious."
"Don't fall for his nonchalant attitude. Wale probably knows you asked me to do that. He is smart enough to figure that out." Kind assured, reaching out to hold Cherry's hand but she pulled away.
"I don't like this..."
"Cherry, I'm keeping my promise to you. If you want him to propose, make him comfortable as he is now." Kind assured while reaching for her hand again, which she welcomingly grabbed.
"But he is only this way whenever you are around."
Kind could clearly see how desperate and impatient Cherry was becoming and in as much as he didn't want to get involved in matters concerning the two, he still felt the need to comfort Cherry. "I promised you a proposal for your ten year anniversary and I'll give it to you. I'll be meeting him tonight for drinks so don't you worry. I'll take care of it."
"Are you sure you'll convince him? I can't stay another year just dating again, neither do I want to expect so much from you and be disappointed later. I'm exhausted... I want a promised commitment. Wale has become so complaisant about us that sometimes I worry if he stopped loving me"
"Don't worry Cherry. Next week, you're getting engaged so get you a nice outfit." Said Kind as he watched a glimmer of hope return on his best friend's girlfriend face. "If you wish, I shall take you shopping myself."
