Wale had been standing outside his apartment waiting for his girlfriend Cherry. They had been in a relationship for nine years and in a few days, they were expecting to celebrate their ten year anniversary. "Hmm... Should I ask Kind what to get Cherry? They always seem to be quite close so I'm sure he knows what she likes best," Wale mumbled to himself as a grin slowly formed on his face. The image if his frustrated friend mad at him for throwing the responsibility of finding a gift for his girlfriend yet again.
A memory played in his mind nostalgically. Kind had been dating an ass of a man, though he had lied multiple times to be his long time cousin. They'd constantly get into fights because of how close Wale was to Kind since the 'cousin' didn't quite comprehend their closeness. Holding his chin up, he shifted his gaze to look at the clear sky, trying to recall the name of that ass a man. "Can't seem to remember, I'll stick to ass of a man and..."
"Me too." Said a whisper, startling Wale back to his surroundings. "Earth to Wale."
"You took your sweet time..."
"What has you spaced out like that? I heard ass of a man and my curiosity reached it's peak in an instant." Cherry walked around Wale pretending to look for some evidence and suddenly took a halt in front of her boyfriend. "I wonder what has gotten you so spaced out that you didn't hear me call you out twice."
"You're always late Cherry and I got bored waiting." Wale replied, opting to avoid sharing his thoughts. He knew well enough of how Cherry becomes whenever he spoke of his best friend.
"You came early babe. We agreed on ten sharp and I had to finish something quickly at work. Where is Kind though? He is never late?" Cherry asked looking around. They had planned a breakfast experience together at the newly opened restaurant a few blocks away.
"He is not coming. It's Saturday but he insisted on going to work for some reason." Wale replied looking a little gloomy and Cherry didn't miss the change that accompanied his tone. Extending a hand to reach for her boyfriend's cheek, she pulled Wale towards her for a gentle kiss.
"Don't worry dear. Now it's just the two of us as it should. Why do you always burden your friend by making him a third wheel on our dates?"
Kissing Cherry again, Wale avoided the discussion. "What nonsense are you talking about? We should go. You're getting me excited and I'm hungry."
"Which hunger are we talking about here?" Cherry teased, a sneer forming at the corner of her mouth and the two laughed their perverted thoughts off, oblivious to the surrounding passerbys.
Grabbing Cherry's hand to hold it, the two lovers turned to leave only to spot an image of Kind standing at a distance looking at them and in that moment, Wale's mood changed completely, calling out to his best friend excitedly.
"Kind...?" Cherry asked. "I thought you weren't coming? So glad you could make it."
"Get a room you two will you?" Kind said and began walking to the direction of the restaurant.
