My truck wasn't in the parking lot when I got to the station and the Chief was in his office with the door opened and the massive wall of a man and along with the man who looked like Andrei was in there speaking. I walked by the door two steps before the back of my hoodie was grabbed and I was pulled into the office, by the Chief.
I took the deepest sip of the iced death in my hand and sighed.
"Morning."
"Lukas, your truck was taken to the shop this morning. Should be back around noon."
"And the camera's who did it?"
"Someone from our job made a mistake and it won't happen again, we have taken to making sure that all the repairs are paid for by us." The Andrei look-alike said.
"Ah, Ok. Thanks?"
"Alexi and this is Creed."
"Oh yes, I've met him before, though we weren't exchanging names then."
"I'm sure you weren't."
"Lukas Black, Nice to meet you both," I said before nodding at the Chief and leaving his office.
I barely sat down when the office was like a live wire calling for all units and teams to be ready, we had a massive murder-suicide. Pulling off my hoodie I snagged my LHPD lab labelled coat and grabbed my camera. I was never a quiet moment around here lately.
"You are with me, Lukas." Officer Harris said
"Sounds good."
I jogged behind Officer Harris to his car and got in. We were clearly heading out of town, I knew it when we got onto a dirt road. The LHPD had a massive range of what we covered and all the smaller cities around fell into that. As we pulled into the driveway of a country house Officer Harris looked at me seriously.
"Prepare yourself, it's a fucking blood bath Lukas."
"Alright, thanks for the heads up."
Officer Smith gave me shoe covers when I got to the door, I popped them on and made sure I didn't bring any contamination in the scene. Once I was clear I stepped into the main room and Officer Harris had been right. Four bodies laid out on the kitchen and living room shared the floor, They had multiple gunshots to all parts of their bodies. There was blood everywhere, The last victim, number five was sitting up in the chair, the back of his head no doubt having been blown off if the shotgun was any clue. Glancing around the space there was plenty that stuck out to me and I made mental notes of a few things before taking photos of them.
I moved to the bodies and started photographing the wounds and positions of the bodies and just the scene in general. Three female victims and two male. Three were young enough to be the children of this couple. I wondered what had set this guy off to go postal on his entire family, there was something we clearly weren't seeing.
Looking around the space I went upstairs and looked around, nothing really looked out of the normal. Officer Smith followed me around and moved things or opened things so I could photograph them. I spotted a bloody fingerprint on the lid of the toilet and photographed it.
"Officer Smith, Please open the toilet tank."
"You got it."
I spotted the metal packet and the needle even before the lid was all the way off. I snapped photos well the lid was coming off and as soon as it was off.
"You think this is the cause?" Officer Smith stated.
"I think it's a big part, but probably not the whole cause of this blood bath."
Wrapping up all the photographing the bodies and the scene it had been hours. There was just so much blood and evidence to photograph. My truck was back in the parking lot when we got back and I smiled. I was thrilled to see my truck back where it was supposed to be. Officer Harris and I headed back inside the station and went our separate ways, I had photos to enhance and look into. My keys were on the top of my desk when I got into my office. There was a sticky note attached to them that said 'Sorry again for the mistake. - Alexi'. I tossed the key into my bag and made a mental note to at least say thank you for the next time I saw him.
Loading all the photos onto my computer I made a file for them and set the computer to make doubles of each and enhance one set of the photos. The software wasn't perfect but it would do the first pass well on its own and I would make the second pass to clean everything up.
I spun around in my rolling chair well I waited and thought about Andrei this morning, He hadn't said hi or morning to me but he had acknowledged me, so maybe he wasn't interested in being friendly in public, which I was more than ok with. I just didn't want to act like an ass in public and ignore him. I mean he only waved, so.
Maybe I just needed to go out with some friends, if they were even interested in hanging out anymore, the last time I had gone out we had gone clubbing and I had gone home with a pretty shit guy, but he was decent in bed. But it had been months since then.
The computer beeped when the processing was done and ready for me to make the second pass. Grabbing a snack pack-sized bag of honey roasted sunflower seeds I set to work. As I got them done I was sending them to the lab and keeping a copy for myself. There were hundreds of photos to go through and I was debating pulling an all-nighter and finishing them all up. The Chief did allow me to do so all the time, so this time would probably be no different.
I sent him an email stating I was going to do so. He responded that it was ok to do so, but to stay out of the way of the mafia, they would be back tonight to finish up talks from the night before. I sent him back one more email saying it was understood and I would be staying in my office and maybe the bathroom. I took a moment to call my mom and let her know I was going to be staying late to finish up my current work pile. The call had gone to the answering machine which wasn't abnormal. So I wasn't worried.
