Benjamin MacLerie could not remember what happened as he opened his eyes the next morning. Waking up in a strange bed he looks around, examining his surroundings. With a terrible headache, he tries to remember the events of the previous night. He gets up from bed and stretches as he hears what seems to be the sound of a whistle coming from the other room. He slowly opens the door to find Annalise making breakfast. She notices him, smiles and begins a conversation.
"Good morning…" Annalise says with a smile. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah…" Benjamin says sceptically as he approaches her.
"Coffee?" Annalise says trying to sound as comforting as possible.
"I am sorry but where am I?" Benjamin asks as he looks around.
"You're in my apartment." Annalise says as she pours him a cup of coffee. Benjamin sits down and begins to drink it, trying to think straight through the pain. "I am Annalise by the way."
"Benjamin…" He replies looking confused. "Anna…"
"Ann." She corrects.
"Sorry, Ann." Benjamin says as he takes a sip of coffee. "Something happened last night, didn't it?" He says trying to sound oddly sure of himself.
"So you do remember." Anna replies as Benjamin's face grows regretful.
"I am so sorry." He says swiftly. "I don't know what's gotten into me these days. I seem to be doing this a lot."
"You have been throwing up on people a lot?" Annalise asks with a slight grin.
"Throwing up…?" Benjamin asks as he suddenly remembers what happened. "This is so humiliating. Let me pay for dry-cleaning."
"That's alright." Ann reassures him.
"No, it's not." Benjamin says and he takes another sip of coffee. "Where is my car?" He proceeds to ask as the coffee has helped kick-start his thinking.
"It's parked downstairs." Ann replies. "I got it towed while you drove with me." Benjamin still does not remember most of what happened the previous night. And although he has a lot of questions, he refuses to ask out of embarrassment.
"I don't seem to remember certain details." Benjamin says trying to cover his tracks.
"You want me to catch you up?" Ann asks.
"No." Benjamin says firmly. "I remember most of what happened last night." He says confidently.
"You do?" Ann asks smiling.
"Yes…." Benjamin lies. "I was aware of what happened."
"Even what we discussed?"
"Yes." Benjamin says not sure of what they discussed. "Well…thank you." He says as he finishes his coffee quickly, trying to get out of what he considers an awkward situation. "I should get going." He says as he swiftly stands up.
"Wait." Ann says as she looks around trying to find something. She then takes out and hands him a card with her professional information.
"You're a therapist?" Benjamin asks as he takes and examines the card.
"Psychologist." She replies. "I have written my personal number on the back."
"Alright." Benjamin says believing this is in connection to the dry-cleaning and towing charges. "Thanks." He says as he leaves taking a deep breath, unable to recall most of what happened last night. He gets into his car and drives home, trying to recall all that he can. As he approaches his house, he sees various police cars waiting outside. As he slows down he lowers the window and asks one of the officers "What's going on officer?"
"Benjamin MacLerie?" The officer says seemingly recognizing him.
"Yes."
"Kindly step outside the vehicle." Not sure of what is happening he calmly parks the car and gets out.
"Sir, where were you last night?" The officer asks.
"I was out…" Benjamin asks as another officer approaches him. "What happened?"
"Your ex-wife Scarlet MacLerie, was kidnapped last night." Benjamin's mind sinks at these words. He remains unresponsive for a moment as he is unable to properly take in what he has heard. "Sir we would like you to come with us."
"How did that happen?" Benjamin asks as these words barely leave his mouth.
"She was at the residence of Mr. Gregory Morgan. He was brutally assaulted…" On hearing these words Benjamin let out an unconscious smile. "Is something funny?" The officer asks angrily.
"No…" Benjamin replies as the officer stares him down.
"Please come with us we have a few questions to ask you." The officer says as he puts his hand on Benjamin.
"Wait…Why me?" Benjamin asks now growing concerned.
"After the threats you made, you are a suspect."
