The night had been tough for the two of them. It was chilly all night, Nollie wouldn't stop complaining and Evan was no better. They had been attacked by monsters of the night named mosquitoes and Nollie even started a battle with a few of them, filled with frustration. You can guess who won. It wasn't a glorious evening for the two.
They rise as the sun did as well, sore from the hardwood of the obviously not "bed material" bench.
Evan stretched and rubbed his eyes. "So..."
"Wha ?" Nollie yawned.
"Hungry ?"
"Yep." The brief conversation between the two said it all. Time to steal. There was a mall 20 minutes away from the center of the city that they liked to "borrow" from. They have never been caught before because both of them were actually good at doing this and even if sometimes things didn't quite go as planned, they were still good runners. Idiots who run very fast was a good definition for them.
Before leaving the bench, Evan looked at it to see if he didn't lose anything. Not that he had things on him, aside from his empty credit card and his phone. That's just a reflex of his to check. The half eaten burrito looked back at him with his meat-eyes. Ah yes, he forgot he was in the process of eating it when they lost the Rat Kingdom. The burrito was kinda starting to smell, but so were Evan and Nollie. So he grabbed it just in case things at the mall went south.
They started to walk side by side in the big city, passing by strangers who were going to work, as it was very early in the morning. Nollie glanced at Evan, searching to start a conversation, but not succeeding. They knew each other for a long time now, they've been basically together all of their childhood, and they always helped each other out. But right now, Nollie felt guilty. Maybe if she had a job she could've paid the rent of their flat. If she didn't open the door, they could've maybe stayed a little longer.
If they didn't came out to their parents, they could have stayed in their little city.
She groaned at thinking these discouraging thought. Evan looked at her, sensing something was wrong. He knew that Nollie could get worked up over things, even if she didn't let it be seen. But he knew her pretty well.
"I have so many mosquitoes bites it's ridiculous ! You're little fight didn't work ! I think they were too strong for you to defeat, really." He said with a joking tone in his voice and a smirk on his face, hoping the distraction would help his friend.
At that, Nollie glared up at him and scoffed.
"Well, at least I'm not the one who screamed because of a moth ! Seriously, who's scared of that apart you ?!"
Even if she was talking loudly, Evan could see the tiny smile on her face.
He just pushed her on the shoulder has a reply and she pushed him back with a little more force.
A duo of friends, Nollie, a super lesbian and Evan, a chaotic gay, manage to clandestinely ride a Ferry to somewhere in an attempt to start a new life away from their suffocating city.
But sadly, when a murder occurs on the Ferry and they find themselves prime suspects in the eccentric detectives Willow and Julien's case, they question all of the choices that have led to this.
