“A
lot better than with anything else I can give you.” He said
solemnly.
“So equal chances of me dying either
way.” I replied.
“Unfortunately, yes. I can try
to do a few small adjustments in an attempt to help you with it but,
after I send it to you, you will be on your own.” He told me.
“I
see. When should I expect it?” I asked.
“In a
few of your minutes. I’ll use the communicator I gave you as beacon
when I send it to you. You better put it down somewhere that has
plenty of room.” He advised
me.
“Alright, I’ll see you in a bit...or...well
not depending how things go.” I told him.
“Good
luck, then.” He said before cutting off the communication stream on
his end.
With our conversation over, I turn the
device off and it collapsed back down into the dime store medallion
the Doc had
disguised it as. I pocketed it before going outside. It was the
middle of the night and the sky was clear with
a full moon. I paused briefly to look up at it and the twinkling
stars before moving on to find
a suitable place for receiving whatever it was Doc was sending me. I
got that it was probably a robotic something
but,
other than that, I
hadn’t a clue.
I lived in a fairly rual area but I
still didn’t feel safe just plopping it down in the yard and, since
I didn’t know how big it was going to be, I didn't want to do it
indoors either. I ended up heading for the patch of woods behind my
house and away any possible
prying
eyes. The
patch was big and thick with vegetation and
it didn’t take very long before I lost sight of any buildings. I
went a little further after that until I came across a small clearing
that I knew was there.
