Still,
it was the
best idea so far was a robotic companion as they would be the most
versatile. I
was about to tell the Doc my decision when the image of me piloting a
mech
came to mind. It was like the ones from the anime and manga I loved
so much but I doubted the good Doctor had anything like that laying
around. Even so, it or something like it would be more useful than
just a robot and it was worth asking.
“I
don’t suppose you have something like a Gundam that you could send
me.” I told him.
“A Gundam?” He asked. “What
is that?”
“It’s
basically a giant robot that someone can ride around in and control
similar to how a pilot can fly an airplane. It and things like it
have tendency to show up in our science fiction stories.” I said,
giving him a the basics of what one was.
“I see.
Hmmm, I
might have something….
Let me think….” He responded.
“You
don’t have to try give me one though, if
you want to. A giant robot is kind of conspicuous.” I said to him
while he thought.
“No, no. You misunderstand me. I
do have something ‘like’ what you are talking about but I am not
sure it would be safe for you to use.”
“It’s
that powerful?” I asked. “Swe-”
“No.” The
Doc said, interupting me. “It’s that dangerous to you,
the user. It is an experimental prototype from a project that closed
down because the prototypes kept killing or
injuring anyone
who tried to use them.”
“What!?
Why the hel—” I stopped and shook my head. “You know what,
never mind about that, we don’t have time for it. Tell me,
if I do use it and don’t get killed or maimed by it, what
are the chances of me coming back alive with my friends?”
