"Vera. How on earth did you even come up with this?"
Vera raised her shoulders with an innocent smile.
"I saw it on a rerun of Friends at the climbing hall," she said. "And in a lot of other TV shows which had assholes like Ty in them."
"Okay then. Just remind me to never get on your bad side," I joked, going along with it and replying just like the accomplice in one of said TV shows or movies often did.
Vera chuckled. "I know it's not a good idea. But, damn it, I've seen far too many girls heartbroken over that guy."
"How many?"
"Uh..." Vera seemed caught off guard. She opened and closed her mouth, but ultimately kept quiet.
I smiled wryly. "So many you don't even want to tell me how many. It's that bad huh?"
"All I'm going to say is that he's had it coming for a while now."
"Yeah..."
I breathed in and out deeply. This wasn't a constructive use of my time. At all. The moral of the books I read was often to not get revenge and instead be the bigger person.
I didn't want to be the bigger person. The passive person who let everything slide off of their back. No, I wanted to be a tiny, tiny person and enjoy how sweet getting him back was going to taste. Just this once.
"Are you ready, Char?"
Vera studied my face, seemingly searching for hints of hesitation about this plan in my expression.
She'd find plenty, since I was usually cautious and timid. Not at all someone who'd take a movie level risk like the one Vera had suggested.
I nodded regardless. "Yes, I'm ready."
"Alright. Wait here on the benches. I'm gonna go get him."
Vera pointed at the entrance of club Ocean, which was already buzzing with excitement and activity; people loudly talking and laughing, and a heavy bass coming from the music inside.
"Try to relax, Char."
Vera patted my shoulder. Then, she made her way to the entrance, both male and female eyes following her as she went. I couldn't blame people for staring at Vera. Especially tonight, since she had decided to wear a form-fitting black dress.
Vera didn't look at any of her admirers, however. She only cast me one last glance over her shoulder before disappearing into the Ocean club building.
It took her less than fifteen minutes.
I literally timed it with my phone, and Vera came outside with a smiling Ty right behind her in exactly thirteen minutes and twenty-two seconds.
Vera lead Ty to the bench where I was sitting, and Ty's smile faded slightly when he saw me.
"Hey, Char?" he greeted me, surprise clearly etched in his expression before he covered it up and took a seat next to me together with Vera.
He had some nerve to be able to act casual. I had to give him that.
"The climbing hall's empty and I have the key," Vera said, sliding her index finger down Ty's chest in a suggestive manner.
I could see Ty's Adam's apple bob as he swallowed thickly. But God knows I would have the same reaction if Vera did that to me. I couldn't even feel jealous as I was too enthralled with staring at Vera's heavy-lidded seductive eyes.
Vera suddenly looked over at me. "We," she said, emphasising the word, "can go there."
Ty caught on real quick. His gaze traveled from Vera to me and back. His eyes went round.
"We? As in, you're both... coming?"
My act wasn't nearly as good or seductive as Vera's, not in the last place because my hands trembled with nerves. I still tried however, and bit my bottom lip.
"I want this summer to be memorable, Ty," I said, cursing the little quiver that also laced my voice.
Ty didn't seem to notice. He seemed at a complete loss for words as he stared at me, his eyes still wide as saucers.
"So, let's go?" Vera suggested.
"Yes," Ty finally managed to bring out. Stammering, like he could hardly believe his luck.
I honestly didn't know why he believed it.
One of the doom scenarios in my mind had been Ty not buying that we wanted to go with him, together. Or that he would insist we'd go to his place rather than the climbing hall, because why would we go to the climbing hall if there was a perfectly good bed in his apartment? That's what I would personally question, if I were Ty.
Vera must've been extremely convincing, considering she was usually rather short and snappish with him.
She continued to be extremely convincing, taking the lead in casually talking with Ty on the way to the climbing hall.
The closer we got, the more I just wanted to run away.
Thankfully, Vera was a lot calmer than I was and she continued distracting Ty. This time, by loosening her dress as we entered the hall.
It dropped on the floor, revealing a blueish purple athletic model bathing suit below.
I honestly tried not to look, but I automatically sneaked a peek at her shoulders, her waist and butt, before focusing on her face again. I swallowed thickly, just as Ty had done on the benches outside of club Ocean.
Vera turned and gave Ty a once-over with a smile playing on her lips. "Go on then, you too," she encouraged him.
Ty laughed, and didn't need much more convincing. He took his keys out of his pocket and placed them on the counter. Then he stripped himself from his shoes, shirt, and pants so fast he nearly ripped them in the process.
Vera winked. "Good. There's a staff room behind the counter. Go wait there while Char and I freshen up for a bit."
I was thankful Ty wasn't at all focused on me (obviously, with Vera there in a freaking bathing suit), because I would have gotten the hell out of there if I had to strip, too.
"I can help you freshen up," Ty offered with a lopsided grin.
Vera laughed and shook her head. "Just wait for us in the staff room, mm?" she said, giving Ty a small push against his chest to get him walking. In the passing, she subtly picked up his clothes and hid them behind her back.
"Okay, okay," Ty laughed.
I held my breath as Ty walked over to the counter and actually went into the staff room.
"Here, take his stuff! Quickly!" Vera hissed, pushing Ty's shirt and pants, which smelled strongly of aftershave, into my hands.
Vera picked up her own dress and shimmied herself into it aggressively.
"Hey, Vera do you have my phone? It's in my pants p--"
Ty's head stuck out of the staff room. He abruptly stopped talking when he noticed us getting ready to leave. His eyes grew wide all over again, but this time not in a happy shocked way.
"Hey! Wait! What are you doing?"
As Ty, dressed only in his underwear, stepped out of the staff room, I was like a deer caught in the headlights. Frozen in place, with a heart that felt like it was about to break out of my ribcage. But Vera grabbed my free hand.
"Go! Go!" she shouted at me, tugging on my hand.
I caught a glimpse of the excited sparkle in Vera's eyes, and allowed myself to get dragged along.
I followed her. Right now, with her hand in mine, I'd follow her anywhere.
"What the hell!" Ty called after us, but he was still behind the counter while we'd already reached the exit. He wouldn't able to catch us that easy.
"It's time for your walk of shame home, asshole," Vera told Ty with a grin, before throwing the front door of the climbing hall shut.
